J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. is putting its money to work.

After years of watching rival Wall Street firms plow their own cash into principal investments, the nation's third-largest bank by assets is starting to spend some of its $1.4 trillion balance sheet on itself.

Today, J.P. Morgan is expected to announce plans to invest $200 million of its own money in the entertainment industry. The move is aimed at capitalizing on the bank's powerful franchise in Hollywood, where it and its predecessor companies have been financing films since the era of silent movies.
