Four former CIA officials who provided intelligence information to past presidents described as preposterous President Bush's claim that he was unaware until very recently that Iran had stopped its nuclear weapons program in 2003.

"It's unbelievable," said Melvin Goodman, who worked for the CIA from 1966 to 1990 and now is a senior fellow at the Center for International Policy.

Goodman's assessment of Bush's assertions were very similar to those of Larry C. Johnson, who worked at the CIA from 1985 to 1989 and from 1989 to 1993 served as Deputy Director in the U.S. State Department's Office of Counter Terrorism; Ray McGovern, a former CIA official who gave daily intelligence briefings to George H. W. Bush while he was vice president; and Bruce Riedel, who spent over two decades at both the CIA and National Security Council and is the former National Intelligence Officer for Near East and South Asian Affairs

At a December 4 (Tuesday) press conference, Bush asserted:

I was made aware of the NIE last week. In August, I think it was Mike McConnell [Director of National Intelligence] came in and said, 'we have some new information.' He didn't tell me what the information was; he did tell me it was going to take a while to analyze.

Why would you take time to analyze new information? One, you want to make sure it's not disinformation. You want to make sure the piece of intelligence you have is real. And secondly, they want to make sure they understand the intelligence they gathered: If they think it's real, then what does it mean? And it wasn't until last week that I was briefed on the NIE that is now public.

McGovern was totally incredulous: "The notion that the head of National Intelligence whispered in Bush's ear 'I've got a surprise for you and it's really important, but I'm not going to tell you about it until we check it out' -- The whole thing is preposterous," he said in an interview with The Huffington Post.

Riedel agreed, saying "the president either chose to ignore what he heard or his director of national intelligence is not doing his job." Riedel said he doubted McConnell failed to "do his part of the bargain."

"To me it is almost mind boggling that the President is told by the DNI that we have new important information on Iran and he doesn't ask 'what is that information?'" said Riedel, who is now a Senior Fellow at the Saban Center For Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution.

He said it wasn't the DNI's responsibility to tell the President to "stop hyperventilating about the Iranian threat."

"The President and his policy advisers - National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley in particular - have the responsibility of keeping their eye on the intelligence and to take into account new information as it comes along," Riedel told The Huffington Post.

Bush and Cheney have repeatedly warned of the dangers of Iran obtaining nuclear weapons, with no mention of the intelligence findings that Iran had stopped its program in 2003. On October 17, Bush was asked at a press conference, "But you definitively believe Iran wants to build a nuclear weapon?" He replied

I think so long -- until they suspend and/or make it clear that they -- that their statements aren't real, yeah, I believe they want to have the capacity, the knowledge, in order to make a nuclear weapon. And I know it's in the world's interest to prevent them from doing so. I believe that the Iranian -- if Iran had a nuclear weapon, it would be a dangerous threat to world peace. But this -- we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I've told people that if you're interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from have the knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously.

White House Press Secretary Tony Fratto declined Wednesday to discuss what McConnell told Bush at their August meeting.

Q ...Was there any indication from McConnell of the nature of the intelligence in the meeting in August?

MR. FRATTO: I can't give you more detail on what Director McConnell said to the President.

Larry Johnson pointed out that the National Intelligence Estimate is actually the result of an analysis of information from all intelligence agencies. The material on which the NIE report was based had been acquired well before the report itself was issued to the public.

When that information first became available to the CIA and other agencies, it would automatically have been included in the Presidential Daily Briefing (PDB) months before the NIE report, Johnson said. The President, Vice President, Defense Secretary and Secretary of State are all given daily accounts of the PDB, Johnson said. McGovern and Goodman agreed.

Most mature adults who have worked handling classified information, or in or with Government and been around the block do not need to hear so called experts. Clearly the wheels fell off the wagon long ago and understands the Whitehouse recognizes nobody will ever believe what ever explanation they will make in deliberately erasing. The only reason why anyone would erase and information on war or interrogation is because they screwed up at the highest levels. The Whitehouse has no compunction in hanging out anyone else out to dry. Given the objection they knew they would get, they decided to get the information out and just move on. Jane Hartman should have also spoke up if she knew. It's truely a cottage industry

I think everyone knows the wheels came off the wagon a long time ago. Now we are seeing the cover ups, e-mails that vanished and files that are being that record what was actually done was opposite what they were saying being deliberately destroyed. The public is still waiting for a reason why the US is still in Iraq and not taking out the Taliban in Afghanistan

Of course it is the same routine, people do not have to be rocket scientists to figure such through.

These people cannot even keep their lies straight, but then when there are so many out there it's hard to keep track. I just loved watching Perino try and splain away Jr's comments, she shuffled, stuttered, lied, denied, and said with a straight face "but the President would never mislead the American public or lie about this". HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Dana, too late!

Most readers here would do well to go to C-Span and watch Bush's Press Conference from last Tuesday (12-04). This "President" stands before America's first line of defense against Government deception and acts like they are all school children! He insults them with the simpleton's logic that defines his every word and sentence. Yet, he insists that they need the true meaning of the NIE report EXPLAINED to them! After career Intelligence Professionals have pored over it for months! And yet, according to him, They Got It Wrong!

His insistence that he knew nothing of the NIE report until last week is simply stunning, even to a layman like me. The people he is addressing are savvy information specialists who can tell when they are having smoke blown into their anal pore. They, too, are incredulous that this world leader would seriously assert such drivel. Exactly! Who Does He Think He Is!!

Someday soon, an unknown hero in the Press Corps will finally say to him: "Mr. President, are you aware that almost NO ONE in this room Believes You? That you have absolutely NO Credibility?" That day is not far off.

Go watch that Press Conference and see for yourself. George Bush is in the advanced stages of "Losing It!" Right before our very eyes.

Unbelievable! The Delusions he harbors are Mind Boggling!

Our Delusional President!

Bush lied us into Iraq and has been trying his best to lie us into Iran. Everything else he has done has been based on lies and deception. He is the ultimate stealth operator.

He is a true believer of his foreign policy delusions. As obscene as his policies in the Middle East have been, they have, to him, had the added benefit of serving as a diversion while he stealthily and determinedly has been working on the domestic front to deliver our country, the United States of America, to the global corporate interests who find our American system and way of life inconvenient and bothersome and a hindrance to their profiteering. He has happily gutted our Constitution and our country while we were all focused on Iraq and Iran.

And by the way, he is lying when he denies that he is selling us out to a North American Union as well.

He lies when the truth would better serve because he has only contempt for the people.

Trying to lie us into war with Iran is sufficient grounds for impeachment, as if sufficient grounds did not already exist in abundance.

Impeach now.

Until MP's place shackles on Bush & Cheney (et al) and lead them from the WH, this Regime will continue (either in the open or behind the scenes as they've done for the last 3 decades)
This admin has hastened the decay of America. they have hit the citizens on every front. Their actions are not only being felt now but will reach far into the future. they have gutted the Republic.
Consider
the Baby Boomers are the fastest growing age segment. We are all living longer (but not better). the next generation not only lacks the numbers to support the aging population- but are now being killed or disabled by a corrupt War.
The National Debt will not be paid off by the largest aging segment, it will have to go to the next (and possibly the one after that)
With the significant decrease in the Labor force due to this demographics and systematic reduction from that sant number- We will reamin in Debt to foreign countries. We will be indentured slaves to the Saudi's, The Chinese????
Now consider the social implications when the numbers of 'enemies' are growing expotentially.
Recruitment is up in the Fanatics, their younger generation is growing, not shrinking.Along with their hatred towards this gov't's actions (past & present)
This agenda was started long before W stole office. It just got a major boost when the boy's made it to the top.
Cheney et al have been working for the Saudi's (et al) for decades. Peace in the Middle East is a scam. through Chaos comes Order. Get rid of those pesky little oil countries and the World is yours (Arab Em, Isreali's and the Multinational Corporations- the oil, the protection and the way to control distribution and thus profits) Control Energy- Control the World, Pinky!

Not a surprise...You see Bush is a liar...

Thanks to a Dr. Hirsch, here"s the indicators list of signs of lying :
"1) Expand contractions, stressing full-form verbs, such as "did not" and "could not," to convince people they're speaking the truth.
2) Deny lying, making emphatic claims to be telling the truth, such as "I have no reason to lie."
3) Pause and use nonword sounds during hesitations in their speech ("uh," "er" and "ah" are examples).
4) Make speech errors and more frequent gaffes than people who speak the truth. Errors can include grammar, tense and losing thought in midsentence.
5) Stutter, stammer and become tongue-tied.
6) Clear their throats and make other noises.
7) Use qualifiers and modifiers, explanatory words, such as "however," "sometimes" and "generally."
8) Avert their gaze, trying to avoid eye contact.
9) Close their hands/interlock their fingers.
10) Cross their arms as if creating a barrier.
11) Drink and swallow more often than those who tell the truth.
12) Use fewer hand gestures, staying stiff, controlling the movements of their hands.
13) Shrug their shoulders and flip their hands over in an "open" (palms up) fashion.
14) Perform hand-to-face grooming, touching their face, ears and hair.
15) Handle objects, such as pens, papers and eyeglasses.
16) Blink less than people who tell the truth.
17) Do less finger pointing.
18) Lean and shift " leaning forward, resting their elbows on desktops or their knees. They also shift often when sitting.
19) Lick their lips often.
20) Pucker and tighten their lips.
21) Sigh and take deep breaths.
22) Smile more and laugh inappropriately.
23) Touch, scratch and rub their nose frequently."

a brilliant new drinking game...next time Bush gives a speech You and your friends take a shot every time he exhibits one of the 23 tell tale signs. The downside of course is that we will all be dead from acute alcohol poisoning before the speech is half over.

August is a bad time to talk to Bush about anything that would prevent a war, HE'S ON VACATION. It was in August 2001 that Bush was briefed by two CIA agents about an impending attack on the USA which interrupted Bush's vacation. Bush dismissed them telling them they covered their asses and they could leave and he went back to vacationing. 9/11/01. Bush doesn't cotton well to having his plans for permanent war interrupted by facts which are contrary to his imagined beliefs of fictions. His inspiration for becoming president is rooted in the 1984 movie "The last Starfighter" a movie he saw at a matinee during his drinking and drugging days.

80% of the natural resources that are coming from the Middle East can be disrupted by Iran in one way or the other.

This is NOT about nuclear weapons, folks. The Iran issue is about CONTROL!

First the lies

With the American military drastically over-extended in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are no viable ground options for Iran. The current operational plans for striking nuclear facilities in Iran will almost certainly be naval and Air Force operations. With Admiral Fallon being an aviator, it is an operation he is well suited to plan, prepare, and execute. His nomination is nothing less than a signal to the American public that the Bush Administration is preparing to launch strikes at Iran. ~ Jon Soltz, Jan 9, 2007

Bush is America's Hitler, and this is not necessarily hyperbolic, given his love for mass murdering Iraqi civilians.

And in your heart,, you already know this.

It"s not hard to figure out. The administration plays to the 30% lunatic fringe that still believes them and sooner or later it will make a talking point.

It's lunch time here on the West Coast and I'm completely lost... what's the Official Story of the Hour? Did Bush know in August or not? Because if he knew, someone should give a heads-up to John Bolton who is over at the Washington Post making a terrible fool of himself saying the administration was completely "unprepared". Interesting op-ed piece, if you haven't read it already.

So? So he was told this summer that Iran might have suspended their nucyular arms programs. Does that mean that Iran "almost certainly" suspended their nucyular arms program? Does it mean they "pretty much for certain definitely" did? Does it prove they maybe wouldn't kind of think about moving toward the idea of perhaps having nucyular arms in the future sometimes? And even if they don't have NUCYULAR arms -- they maybe could still lob stones across the globe and knock out somebody's car window!! Didja ever think about THAT huh didja??

Obviously the only sane thing to do is to BOMB THEM BOMB THEM ALL BOMB THEM TO HELL. After all, we can come up with a good reason for it all LATER, just like we did in Iraq. I think I heard somewheres that this Ahmadinejad guy tried to kill Bush's pappy a while back.....

There are still a lot of the 30 percenters out there who buy everything this administration says hook, line, and sinker. Even when faced with insurmountable evidence. These same people are now saying that it's the CIA'S fault, and that they provided GWB with faulty intelligence. I can't believe this crap. I don't know who's dumber, the President or them.
