The Senate's No. 2 Democrat on Friday asked the Justice Department to investigate whether the CIA obstructed justice by destroying videotapes that documented the harsh 2002 interrogations of two alleged terrorists.

A day after CIA Director Gen. Michael Hayden told agency employees the tapes were destroyed in 2005, members of Congress, human rights groups and lawyers for accused terrorists said the tapes may have been key evidence that the U.S. government had illegally authorized torture.

In a letter to Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois asked for a probe of "whether CIA officials who destroyed these videotapes and withheld information about their existence from official proceedings violated the law."

It is simply outrageous to think that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have not seen those tapes. They have authorized torture, when it is inhumane, unmoral, and most importantly, ineffective. I have to belive that we as American citizens are not so naive or unwilling to face the harsh truth that we could fathom that these two men would not want to see their policies in action. If you have spent enormous effort to have a policy put in place, don't you want to see the results of that policy? Take a policy that isn't as reviling and unrighteous, for instance children's health. You're on an elementary school board whose students have begun to become increasingly overweight. You enact new policies, such as serving healthier lunches, providing more time for exercise, and educating kids on making healthy choices. A year passes, and you get an update from the principal that the program is a great success. There are many before and after pictures of the children that have benefited from this program. Then you say, "Nah, don't care to see those pictures. But I'll go out and evangelize the progam." That is RIDICULOUS!! Of course you take a look at the EVIDENCE that you're policy is working. Same with Bush and Cheney. These are the men that at the least tolerated, more likely instigated Saddam Hussein's wild west style execution. Yes, they knew about the tapes, they watched the tapes, then when the pressure was on to end the U.S.'s torture policy, they destroyed the tapes. They may have even been made for the express purpose of giving the President and Vice President a look at their inhumanity. There must be an investigation. I can think of several departments within the Congress and the Executive Branch that could and should be involved. We must no longer allow the obstruction of justice to be the cornerstone of American law. We must undo the anti-patriotic, cynical, tyrannical, fascist, and corrupt damage that has been done in our name.

Dick?

Steny?

How could it be "obstructing justice" when it's not been "justice" you seek?

"Off the table" seems to ring a bell.

Chickensh!t doublespeak do-nothings.

I guess the C.I.A. lied to the 9/11 commission.

I find it insulting that they would have us believe that every interrogation isn't video taped. You're seriously not suggesting to me that they only video tape some interrogations. That's completely garbage to me. These things have to be analyzed after the fact so I would be very surprised to find that all interrogations weren't video taped.

Interesting - HP has taken all posts off mentioning the Bilderberg Group and the Federal Reserve Bank - let's see how long this post lasts?

So, why the censorship HP? Hitting to close to home or do you wish to limit intellectual debate?

Another Melba Toast site - piss on HP

It's not about whether or not illegal torture techniques were used on prisoners.

It's about what those prisoners said about the Al Qaeda 9/11 connection with the Saudi royal family and Pakistan's ISI which is being covered up.

The Bush "administration" does not want the world to know how deeply involved it was in helping to orchestrate the 9/11 attacks, simple as that.

Biggest scandal since 22 people went to prison during the Clinton's Whitewater-Gate scandal.

...but wait. Hasn't the CIA always kept secrets. Their job is to keep secrets, not share secrets with the public.

For 50 years they've been keeping secrets. Now the "20% approval rating" dems want answers? You're about 50 years too late.

Well

Goodnight all

Don't forget to turn your receivers off.

Or at least turn down the gain.

Night, don't let the bed bugs bite [or record].

;)
