CompUSA operates 103 stores, which plan to run store-closing sales during the holidays.

CompUSA is the first place I go to for electronics of many types and I am going to miss them very much. Our Wichita store had great personnel and were very helpful in answering questions and had more Apple products than any store other than our Apple dealer. What a huge loss. I hope the other main stores like Best Buy get better stock.

It's good that businesses fail.

R.I.P. CompUSELESS.

As has been mentioned, the net killed them.

They actually weren't that bad 10 years ago, before everyone started selling PC's and related hardware/software. I think almost all of the retail environment is filled with salespeople that have very little or no technical experience, and no formal training at all.

And very bad customer skills.

96 was the CompUSA Glory Years. It was an ultra slow motion slide off the cliff from there on out.

I guess the $$ they made from fraudulent mail-in rebates wasn't enough to flat a sinking ship. Well, I only got caught once.

"Fool me once ... " it's goodbye -- and no good luck.

It's interesting that all of the comments so far have been about lack of customer service and product knowledge. I agree completely.

I was absolutely astonished when Circuit City laid off all of their knowledgeable staff in favor of order takers a few months ago. I no longer shop there either.

Good riddance... they lost me as a customer the last time they tried to scare me into buying an extended warranty for the laptop I was buying. If I wanted to be terrorized, I would shop at http://www.Bush's_Boxes_For_the_Internets_&_Using_the_Google.com

I won't miss CompUSA. There were better store chains back in the 1990's who CompUSA bought out or competed out of business; catering to ignorants with minimal staff competence.

At least my city has a MicroCenter. It's the best computer store around, next to a Fry's (but better than Fry's for PC stuff and service). Hope they can stay around! They sure blow away CompUSA.

I tried to return a copy of Adobe Photoshop
Album because the window in which you type
the unlock code did not have an enter button.

They tried it on their computer in the store and
said, "It works for us." I had to leave it in
the ashtray outside the store because they would
not let me leave it at the service desk. They
even tried to run after me to force me to take
it back.

I eventually got the Credit Card company to
force them to return my money.

Needless to say, I have not been in a CompUSA
since that episode.

Luckily for me I eventually worked in a place
that had a Fry's practically next door.

ComnpUSA won't be missed by me. If ignorance is bliss, the majority of employees I had to interact with were outright giddy with bliss.

I refer to them as either inCOMPetentUSA or ninCOMPoopUSA.

That's too damned bad. I've not darkened their doorstep since they introduced the non-existent "mail in rebate". Good riddance.
