On Saturday in Iowa, Oprah Winfrey took the stage at an Obama rally to speak about why she is endorsing Barack and why it is America needs him as president. In front of a full house of roughly 18,500 people, Winfrey spoke passionately and directly about the candidate who made her, for the first time in her life, feel compelled to hit the campaign trail.

The event was part of a weekend dubbed "Oprahpalooza," during which Winfrey will make campaign stops not only in Iowa, but also in New Hampshire and South Carolina on Sunday with Obama and his wife. In South Carolina, the Obama campaign was forced to move the event to an 80,000-seat football stadium after running out of the 18,000 tickets originally made available.

Watch Oprah speak about her first ever presidential endorsement.

Fox News

Though she didn't mention Clinton directly, Oprah did address her criticism of Obama--that he lacks experience--with a strong statement that judgment is more important than experience.

Fox News

As an example of Obama's wisdom and good judgment, Oprah pointed to the way he stood with conviction against the Iraq war from the beginning. The comment got some of the loudest applause of the afternoon.

Oprah promoted the war, and now she's not admitting it. Bill Moyer's PBS documentary "Buying The War" documents how Oprah contributed to convincing people the US needed to invade. http://youtube.com/watch?v=vqVtRJeXxXM

It's not a good idea to trust the woman now. Obama has always spoke out against the war, but he hasn't actually done anything to end it.
Now he is backpedaling on pulling out. Check out Chris Dodd's video clip and Iraq Veterans Against the war www.ivaw.net

After more investigations, I am still very proud to support Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for President.

Most of those attacking her seem to be ignorant of her long years of development from childhood in her commitment to civil rights, family welfare and social equality. No wonder Andrew Young and other African American leaders are supporting her. She marched with them in the 1960s as Martin Luther King, Jr., led the way.
In fact, she is more African American at heart than Barack Obama who would be most needed as the President of Kenya.:)

Personally I respect women who are proud wives and mothers than the so called liberated "husbandless" ones. So, I would prefer an Oprah who is a proud wife and mother to the one who lost hope on marriage and motherhood.

...I hear a lot of race-based (sometimes even racist) comments surrounding Obama, his being black, etc...

...Obama is also half-white...I wonder whether people's race-based views would be changed if they saw him for what he is; half-black and half-white...

...just a thought...

Why is Obama always praised for being against the war from the beginning? He bashes Hillary for her vote for the resolution but Obama wasn't even in the senate until 2004. He wasn't even around for that vote.

I mean, I was against the war from the beginning too. I sat right here on my couch, night after night, and bitched about it. So what. I wasn't in the senate, faced with a huge decision, and a critical vote, and pressure from my state, government and intelligence reports. (which we now know was based on lies and false intel.)

I just feel like he is a second string quarterback, who showed up late for the final game, and is now criticizing everyone for their actions - when he wasn't even around for the entire season.

And I totally agree with the comments that others made about her bringing Dr. Phil and the Secret to us. I used to watch Oprah, and have always kind of liked her, but I don't think her judgment is always spot on. This is what Oprah said when asked why she was opening her South African school:

“I became so frustrated with visiting inner-city schools that I just stopped going. The sense that you need to learn just isn’t there,” she says. “If you ask the kids what they want or need, they will say an iPod or some sneakers. In South Africa, they don’t ask for money or toys. They ask for uniforms so they can go to school.”

So, it makes me wonder what she is really looking for in a Presidential candidate...

Oprah is allowed to think what she wants (at least for now) and she's allowed to support whomever she wants to support. But, if her premise is as the HuffPo lead suggests, then I think she should review what her candidate has done with his time since elected to the Senate. Because, pretty much vote for vote, Obama and Hillary are not much different as far as I can tell. No, the only thing that seems to separate them is their different unique features -- first black man, first woman. Other than that, I don't think we'll see much of a departure from the current DLC-lead "centrist" politics from either of them, if one of them were elected. So, hopefully, our choice won't come down to Obama or Hillary -- no matter who shows up to endorse them!

"The amount of time you spent in Washington means nothing unless you are accountable for the judgments you made."

These are tough words coming from Oprah, and they have the aura of the truth. Oprah could be a politician herself....

I remember people said similar things about Obama as they did about JFK-- too young, not enough experience,Catholic... and despite his flaws he turned out to be one of the most beloved and influential presidents of my lifetime. People should stop thinking in conventional terms and give credence to the possibility that these are times that demand different people, ideas, and actions.
How anyone could figure GWB was a plausible presidential candidate (twice) but Obama is not mystifies me.

Time will tell.

If you pitch both Orpah Winfrey and Barack Hussein Obama against Hillary Clinton on the critical realities in Sudan and Zimabawe, I bet you that both Winfrey and Obama would be ignorant of the facts.

Orpah Winfrey thinks South Africa is the heart and soul of Africa and Barack Obama needed a guide to find his way to his father's village in Kenya.
He should have asked Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for direction.

Orpah Winfrey's roots end in Liberia and there are more displaced poor girls in Liberia who need schools than those in South Africa where she built her Public Relations Leadership Academy for Girls to impress Nelson Mandela and South Africans who ape Americans in pop culture and commercial patronage.

Aid should be given to the poor and needy who need it most.

South Africans are not in dire need of schools as the African refugees in Darfur, Morovia, Freetown and other parts of Africa.

I do not believe in cosmetic makeover, I believe in calling a spade a spade, whether black or white.

The future of America is at stake and should not be used for publicity stunts.

I don't think Oprah is really telling the truth here. Obama has said all along he opposed the war, but he's done nothing to get the US out. It's all talk.

Watch Obama in this video Chris Dodd put together. Chris is a good man. At least he has promised to get the US out of Iraq

http://youtube.com/watch?v=zza5rjai9F0

Barack Obama has done nothing to end the Patriot Act, and Obama SUPPORTS S. 1959 the "American Home Grown Terrorist Act" This is a bill to commission a study to find terrorists in the US who are developing because of the Internet.

Does anyone really believe terrorists are sprouting up all over the US because of the Internet? The bill won't do anything to examine mall shootings. It says it's to find people who seek ideological, political, or social change through force or violence. Through violence is bad, but there's no definition of what they mean by force.

Naomi Wolf writes for Huffpo. Watch what she has to say about the 10 steps to fascism and then take a look at this bill.

I used to be an Obama supporter myself because I thought he would end the war. I have come to believe he's just another pretty face and a smooth talking politician.

Personally I think Ron Paul has the best foreign policy out there, and is the only one who understands why the dollar is crashing and how to stop it. Kucinich is a great man, but I don't believe he understands inflation. I'm not the only person who sees this.

I am hopeful that Oprah's role in Senator Obama's campaign is limited to her "celebrity draw", and not to her judgment. Miss Winfrey was used as a propaganda tool for the Iraq war, and recommended the Reverend Donnie McClurkin to the Senator for the South Carolina gospel sing--a serious mis-step compounded by a feeble correction.

Barack Obama is a unique indidvidual who is not afraid to say what his own convictions are. He is what you see-he does not need focus groups to tell him what those beliefs should be-he KNOWS.
When he speaks to audiences-he has a unique way of making each one of them feel that they are as unique as he-and together you can build something bigger and better. When I see him-he makes me smile and lifts me up-he reaches into the emotions-and makes you feel his "don't worry-we'll get through this" kind of strength.
I would be glad, proud to see him as POTUS and watch him restore the dignity of the US after watching 7yrs of the destruction by ignorance, greed, corruption, bad judgement, deception, connivance, divisiveness, selfishness, by the GOP and GW.

Here are two reasons why I feel Senator Barack Obama is the best choice for the Democratic party now and for America in November:

1. Senator Obama has energized and brought to his campaign a new generation of progressive voters.

2. Senator Obama has energized and brought to his campaign substantial donations from a new demographic of political contributors.

Oprah's words couldn't be more right on... Did you just hear that "whooosh?" That's Hillary's chances flushing down the toilet.

This is for Truth 101:
Your comments, while reflective of a lot of people, sound like so much 'whistling in the dark'.
But the fact of the matter is that no one really knows the impact Oprah Winfrey will have on voters. That said, no one, way back when, thought a black twenty-something young woman in Baltimore would not only kick the architect of afternoon talk shows off his perch, but all the way out of television. Today, a whole generation of viewers don't even know or remember Phil Donohue.
Before writing off Oprah's clout, in of all things, an election, call ol' Phil and ask his thoughts on the matter.
Like it or not, Oprah's power and influence, is amazing. Just how amazing waits to be seen. But, never----NEVER---underestimate her.

Oprah's words in Iowa tell why Senator Obama is the person to be POTUS #44. You go Oprah & Barak. Sen Clinton may have lived in the White House 8 yrs but wasn't POTUS. End the dynasty politics. It's way past time for a new approach & ideas from an experienced new face who is a quick study.

Many of you dont get it. Its not that it's Oprah, its the fact that the media gives this so much coverage. Whether her audiance in particular votes for B/O is much less consequence to how much media attention and headline attention this gets. This is strong medicine. Ever since HRC stumbled in the last debate, she has been pushed way down the list. I hope she stays there.
