Hillary Clinton

Washington Post:

SURE, HILLARY CLINTON HAS BEEN IN THE PUBLIC EYE FOR MORE THAN 15 YEARS, BUT YOU MIGHT NOT KNOW . . .

1.It's a story she seldom tells, not even in her autobiography. But Clinton, who opposed the Vietnam War, says she once tried to join the Marines shortly after the conflict ended. She recounted the failed enlistment one time when she was first lady, in a speech to female veterans in June 1994. She said she went to an Arkansas military recruitment office shortly before she married Bill Clinton in fall 1975. Once the Marine recruiter saw the bespectacled law professor, she told the group, he rejected her by saying, "You're too old, you can't see and you're a woman."

This is an old story. And her claims of attempting to join the marines are just as false today as they were when she lied about them the first time around...

Is she saying she doesn't "loathe" the military as much as Bubba does?

I'm not sure how the censoring happens on HuffPo, who does it or what requirements are used. I tried to post this response 5 times on Earl Ofari Hutchinson's blog yesterday and was shot down. I think it is relevant here, it is certainly not obscene or inflammatory, but apparently you can criticize anyone but Earl? Make up your own minds...if it gets through, that is.

Ah, Earl...you've obviously had your head stuck in Carl Roves' playbook too long now to actually give voice to a question framed in that way.

Have you stopped beating your wife--yes or no?!

Why is it that the pundits who try to control the national dialogue around this most important nomination, insist on characterizing a difference of opinion as bashing or hatred? Is your resolve so weak? Is it the DLC formula for victory? Or is it just more of Senator Clinton's well know penchant for claiming that there are conspiracies all about her, and her ex-president husband?

The primary reason so many on HuffPo favor another candidate is her voting record, which mirrors the Republican agenda on nearly every issue. It requires neither hate nor bashing to make an irrefutable case based only on that record against her performing the duties of President in the best interest of the country.

I won't go line by line on her votes here as I know many other posters will perform that duty.

Earl, I kinda actually like Hillary, and I'd like her even better if she were more clear about her programs and didn't appear to be merely a rubber stamp for the Bush administration

I believe that story as much as I believe the whopper she told about being named after Sir Edmund Hillary.

I'm sick and tired of the insane worship of the military that permeates our friggin entire culture. Why can't candidates proudly pronounce not only their hatred of war but their active opposition to it?

Before everybody repeats somebody's digging about whatever she said in 1994 about whatever she did in 1975, let's remember some simple facts: Hillary is a good daughter, how many of you allow your aging mother living with you and how many of you are taking care of your aging parents? Hillary is a good mother also. She is and never was a non-drug user. Boring enough you might say, but principle enough for me.

Is this a variation on Lt. Kerry "reporting for duty?" Mrs. Clinton fancied herself a dove in those days. The doves I knew abhored military recruiters.

This is just plain pathetic. She is blowing it big time. Giordy

I think her story is perfectly feasable and might have happened exactly the way she protrays it.

Of course, it might be interpreted to mean that she is a bigger hawk than any other Democratic candidate, which she is, including her husband who did not serve. I could see her marching with a weapon on her shoulder.

Given her record, she seem martial enough to me.

Since when did the Marine corps start rejecting 27 year old college educated women?

Where is the evidence to support this latest load of self-serving bullshit?

Please Clinton - you're going to have to do a little better than that.

Can you all give her a break . . . please? Is there anything that she can do or say that does not invite vitriol? Despite recent Obamania, Senator Clinton could still very well be the Democratic nominee. Let's not tear her down before she gets started.

I, for one, need affordable healthcare, and there is not a single Republican candidate who has a plan that does not exclude people with pre-existing conditions.

Your fictional perfect candidate can never be elected.

Hillary went from wanting to serve the nation in the marines to cooperate lawyer. I just can’t see an ordinary recruiter rejecting an enlistee with a law degree, an obvious officer candidate.

Why then didn’t she seek some other form of service, the Peace Corp., another charitable organization, instead she went straight to cooperate law and shady land deals like ‘White Water’. .

What other self-serving thing is Hillary going to come up with today.
