On "The O'Reilly Factor" last night, Bill O'Reilly — who boasts that he's leading the fight against the secular progressive "War On Christmas" (and who one columnist dubbed as leading the "crusaders for creches" ) — declared victory over the "Taliban-like oppression" of Christmas.

Because Bill O'Reilly saved Christmas, "all over the country, the sights and sounds of Christmas are on display. Few department stores are telling employees not to say, 'Merry Christmas.'"

And to those of you who think religion has no place in the public square, Christmas Crusader O'Reilly has seven words for you: "Joseph Stalin, Mao, and Fidel salute you!"

Hopefully O'Reilly knows that if he puts a pine tree in his house during December he is celebrating the norther European holiday called Yule....which has nothing to do with a jewish carpenter from the middle east.

The public sphere Bill O"Reilly is referring to in this clip is department stores.

OK? Department Stores.

Department stores are in the business of selling gifts for people of all religions at Christmastime " in other words: it is Commerce. Department Stores make more money when people of all denominations feel welcomed. Department Stores do not want to take a 20% loss on sales because they fail to include everyone. Even a 2% loss it a big hit at Christmas time.

It is not about PC taking over. It is about selling the most merchandise to the most number of people in malls and Department Stores. It is not a conspiracy. It is further workings of the commercialism of Christmas. It is not a plot. It is business, Bill.

But Bill O"Reilly gets this. He only chooses not to because there is no money in it for him.

Bill O"Reilly is working his own seasonal commercialism: pumping up a sense victimhood in his listeners to make more money for Bill O'Reilly. More money for Bill.

The conspiracy here is his.

And Oh, what a lovely pay check!!!

The founding fathers were trusting in God - but never said:

In religion we trust.

One nation under religion.

It was - endowed by their creator certain inalienable - not endowed by religion.

We only know what a religion says about any current political issue - because some MAN says so.

Neo cons and gop ops say their religion equals Gods will. This is exactly what is prohibited in the US constitution - the establishment of a state religion.

There is nothing in the Bible instructing Christians to "celebrate" Christ's birth. The hoopla associated with christmas is more aligned with worshiping graven images, gluttony, and the admonishments listed in the seven woes. On the other hand, even Jesus liked a good party, as long as the wine is good. It's a lot harder to be a follower of Christ than just clamoring for "Merry Christmas", "In God we trust", prayer in school, and posting the ten commandments in courthouses.

Bill O'Reilly is a hump. I can't wait for the next POTUS to be anyone except a right-wing republican. I can't wait to hear Limbaugh, Billdo, Hannity,Beck etc. to start crying when this administration is gone. My best guess is that a least half to two thirds of what these hammerheads says is either a spin or a straight-up lie.Anybody actually watch O'Reilly? If you disagree with him, he yells, cuts you off, bullies, and won't let you finish. Who believes this boobery? This country has been on a conservative bent for 8-10 years now. It's time the reverse that trend. I'm tired of cafeteria Christians telling me what to do. Vote in '08. Get registered. That is all. P.S. All the neo-cons blogging on this site...Go fall in a hole. Twice. God Bless.;^)

Religion is regarded by the common people as true, by the wise as false, and by the rulers as useful.

"And to those of you who think religion has no place in the public square, Christmas Crusader O'Reilly has seven words for you: "Joseph Stalin, Mao, and Fidel salute you!"

If you include **ALL** America's founding fathers, it would be a lot more than just seven names...
But then again, history is not O'Liely's forte, as he showed when he attributed the Malmedy massacre (84 American POWs slaughtered by SS troops in a small Belgian town during the famous "Battle of the Bulge" in WWII) to American GIs...

I think the ancient Romans should be upset that the Christians stole their Saturnalia festivities and made them into a celebration of their religion. Jesus Christ wasn't born on December 25 (actually, serious historians now believe he never existed and he was a "composite character" made up from a few of many preachers roaming Palestine by the thousands), the Christians just thought it would be CONVENIENT for the followers to believe so. It's not that believing yet another fantasy would change anything...

So the war on Christmas is now won
Or so O'Reilly's Spin Zone has spun
And Bill's asked his friend Santa
For an extra large loofah
For some steamy hot, soapy yuletide fun.

"MISSIONARY ACCOMPLISHED"?

"The mind of a bigot is like the pupil of an eye: the more light you pour on it, the more it contracts."
Chief Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, U.S. Supreme Court

"When fascism comes to America it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." -Sinclair Lewis

"Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise."

- James Madison

"Ecclesiastical establishments tend to great ignorance and corruption, all of which facilitate the execution of mischievous projects."

- James Madison

"The purpose of separation of church and state is to keep forever from these shores the ceaseless strife that has soaked the soil of Europe in blood for centuries."

- James Madison

"Shake off all the fears of servile prejudices, under which weak minds are servilely crouched. Fix reason firmly in her seat, and call on her tribunal for every fact, every opinion. Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear.

- Thomas Jefferson

"...religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should 'make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,' thus building a wall of separation between church and State."

- Thomas Jefferson

"Lighthouses are more helpful than churches."

- Benjamin Franklin

"In the affairs of the world, men are saved, not by faith, but by the lack of it."

- Benjamin Franklin

"This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it."

John Adams
