During an appearance on Meet the Press today, Mitt Romney took another swipe at his chief primary opponent, Mike Huckabee, calling on him to apologize to President Bush for describing the current U.S. foreign policy as "arrogant bunker mentality."

"That's an insult to the president and Mike Huckabee should apologize to the president," Romney said when read Huckabee's statement by moderator Tim Russert. "To say that the president is arrogant and has a bunker mentality, that's when he went over the line."

The attack underscores a two-prong approach for the former Massachusetts Governor. While appealing to more hawkish, neoconservative Republican voters, Romney is also seeking to reinforce that Huckabee is inexperienced and weak on foreign policy.

On Friday, Huckabee attempted to address concerns that he lacked knowledge and gravitas in international affairs by penning a lengthy article detailing his world views for the journal Foreign Affairs. In the piece, the former Arkansas Governor offered relatively non-specific takes on Iraq, Iran, and other foreign policy hotspots. But the most noteworthy takes were criticisms of President Bush.

"American foreign policy needs to change its tone and attitude, open up, and reach out," Huckabee said. "The Bush administration's arrogant bunker mentality has been counterproductive at home and abroad. My administration will recognize that the United States' main fight today does not pit us against the world but pits the world against the terrorists."

Huckabee went on to offer a few specific criticisms of the President -- mainly that he did not initially provide enough troops to invade Iraq and did not listen to critiques and dissension from within the military.

With the Iowa caucus only weeks away and his lead having disappeared, Romney jumped on the remarks, declaring on Saturday: "It sounds like something Barack Obama or John Edwards would say - not what you hear from someone running for president as a Republican," Romney told reporters.

Huckabee responded during his Sunday appearance on CNN's Late Edition With Wolf Blitzer, accusing Romney of taking his article out of context and flip-flopping on the Iraq War troop surge.

Well, I think he needs to read the article. It would really help if he would do that.Because if he did, he would see that there's no apology necessary to the president. I'm the one who actually supported the president's surge... So, you know, I don't have anything to apologize for. But I'm running for president of the United States.I've got to show that I do have my own mind when it comes to how this country ought to lead, not only within its own borders but across the world. And what I demonstrated in that article -- and I invite people to actually read it and not just take what my opponents say that it says, what they're going to see is that I believe America has to have the strongest possible military on the face of the planet. So strong that nobody wants to engage us in battle. But also a nation that recognizes that we do better when we are partners with the entire world standing against the threat of Islamo-fascism than when we simply say that we're going to do it our way, and if you don't want to do it our way, then we brand you as being with the other side.

I forgot to mention that Jesus had 12 dingbats around him, Smith was more modest, he had only 11 jerks associated with him

This swindle is greater than the BS of Christianity in General and Catholicism.
Ay religion is good, but the dumbest is the best.
The Mormon Presidential candidate is highly intelligent. There is no excuse for him to plead ignorance. This is what makes him dangerous.
Book of Mormon, one of the sacred scriptures of the Mormons, first published in 1830 in Palmyra, New York, by Joseph Smith, the founding prophet of the Mormon church. By Smith's account, he found the record, which was written on golden plates, in a hill near his home and with divine aid translated the text into English. The plates then disappeared; according to Smith, they were taken by an angel after the translation. At least 11 witnesses, however, testified to having seen and examined the plates. The 1830 edition, containing 590 pages, was subsequently revised and corrected by Smith; later the book was divided into chapters and verses. It has been published in 38 languages besides English.

The other aspirant for President is just a misguided Christian. One should not take him serious.

Right now Romney is in the same place as Hillary or Obama, first or second and very bitter, because he did not stay in first place in Iowa. I am as mad as hell, not taking it anymore, and obviously will say anything to get attention. First he comes on television concerning his religious beliefs because all the neo-con christians have decided they like the former baptist minister on their issues. After all Mormons have a more recent history of racism and like Muslims having 50 wives and treating women like cows. So he feels it's necessary to say, he'll follow the constitution and not allow religion to interfere in government.

And now Huckie speaks truth to power and Romneys on a rant. For goodness sake if he really advocates change, he should be praising Huckie for his remarks.

Romney wants all the neo-cons to forget about the gays rights and pro choice he was for before he ran for President. Sooo dumb, I see Guiliani hasn't backed down, and he was popular in the deep south until Huckie came along. That's all those people care about, too many are marrying each other, and everyone knows inter marrying produces idiots.

Apologize for what? Calling a shovel a spade?

Apologizing to President Bush for describing the current U.S. foreign policy as "arrogant bunker mentality" would be like apologizing to night for describing it as "dark," or apologizing to Mitt Romney for describing him as "shallow and superficial."

What is most amazing is that the Repig pack of Presidential contenders are all vying to be right of, and far worse than, Bush himself. Considering The Decider's sterling poll numbers (24% approval is it?), it's curious that they're all trying to be more macho, more torture loving, more pro-war's of choice, more lawbreaking and even more pseudo-religious than TD. Unless they're expecting the Repig political machine to get them elected by hook or by crook, it makes no sense. Which leads to the conclusion that they know that one of them is going to be the next Decider Guy, and that one of the corporate requirements is they carry the R'Pig Ball even further past the goal posts than Dear Leader has taken it.

Why else would they align themselves with a seriously lame duck like W? It's because the power behind this throne is still in control, and they expect their "candidate" to act accordingly. And of course, because Bush has been responsible for massive returns on their investment in him...he went far out of his way to fuck every single American, and the Constitution, and his corporate masters have netted enormous multi-billion dollar profits ever since.

And now we have Meat Romney calling for Huckabee to apologize for dissing The Decider Guy. Huh? Instead of trying to recapture the Republican party from the extremist neo-con fringe that has so corrupted it, they're lining up to suck on Emperor Bush's scepter. They're all just dying to give him lip service, so they can show his corporate masters that they too will be subservient enablers, just like W has been. And if all goes well for one of them, some future R'pig candidates will be lining up to blow them as well, in some future election.

The military-congressional-industrial complex has won the war...the real war, for the conquest of the United States and all that it used to represent. America is a country of eternal war now (with eternal corporate profits)...and nothing can change that.

I don't care for many of Huckabee's past statements; however, whether his opponent (Romney) likes it or not, what he voiced about Pres. Bush was the truth. And, I believe it is George Bush who really ought to be the one apologizing these days ~ not only to all Americans, but to our many confused & angry global neighbors ~ for his complete & utter failure as leader of the only remaining superpower. What an idiot Bush turned out to be!

What absolute bullshit! That anyone should apologize to Bush about any accusation leveled at him is absurd. It's even crazier when the charges are true. The Republicans continue to foul the air with gases from fools like Romney. What an empty suit!

For Romney to make this statement appears to be a suicide statement. When the prez has approaval of only 28%, defending him seems suicidal.
