Earlier this morning, the Hillary Clinton campaign decided that they'd save a little money and use today's morning news shows to mount a lengthy campaign commercial, chock-a-block with all the new focus-tested sentences that have been the centerpiece of her campaign ever since its "Well, Okay, Then, We're About 'Change' Now, Too" Reboot. It was a perfect plan.
Unfortunately, this required her to confront the Today Show's David Gregory, who inconveniently decided to start "asking questions", and "holding" her campaign "accountable" to statements they had made.
GREGORY: So, Senator, if people look at the last six weeks and they might question how Hillary Clinton responds to a crisis or how she handles pressure and they might point to the fact that you complained about the all boys network of presidential politics in the wake of the Philadelphia debate, they would see your husband complaining about media coverage of you, they'd see your campaign raise the past drug issue and use by Barack Obama or questioned him for his ambition, and they might say, well, this is really what we don't like about politics. Is that fair?
CLINTON: Well, i don't think that's at all an accurate representation of my campaign. You know, campaigns are like life. You know, some days are perfect. Some days aren't. But what really matters is where you're headed, what you do when you suffer some kind of, you know, problem, how you put yourself back on track and, you know, I've been doing this a long time.
GREGORY: I'm sorry. You said that was unfair. You dispute those were how you handled things in the wake of hitting that rough patch?
CLINTON: I'm going to let voters decide that, not the press. I'm going to let voters make up their minds. what I see happening here and across the country is voters are responding very positively to my campaign. I'm a proven leader. That's what The Des Moines Register said, what a lot of my supporters say.

Right! Silly David Gregory! As they say: Post Des Moines Register, ergo propter Des Moines Register! Still, Gregory pressed on something one of Clinton's "supporters" has said.
GREGORY: Let's talk about a key issue you raise on the campaign trail, that's your experience. It was your husband, the former president, that said Barack Obama as president would be "rolling the dice" with america's future. Assuming you agree with that, let's be clear. an Obama presidency is a risk to what? America's national security, America's economic health? What precisely?
CLINTON: Well, i would ask people to read the Des Moines Register editorial. Basically what they said is we need a proven leader. We have tough times.
GREGORY: What does it mean? We know what The Register said.
CLINTON: I think that's one of the principal cases for my candidacy. If you want to know what changes I'll make, look at the changes I've already made. Everybody talks about change. Everybody talks about change in this campaign. Some people think you get change by demanding it. Some think you get it by hoping for it. I think you get it by doing really hard work. That's what I've done.
GREGORY: Senator Clinton, you're not answering the question. Your husband said it would be "rolling the dice" for America's future if he were elected. What's the risk to America if Barack Obama is the president?
CLINTON: [Pause] You know, he not only said that, but the Des Moines Register editorial implied that.

Wow! It's a good thing the Des Moines Register didn't come out in favor of Clinton jumping into the Dale Maffit Reservoir!
Anyway, Gregory, growing tired of this battle of wits, attempted to shift the discussion. But Hillary hadn't yet finished dispensing platitudes.
GREGORY: So you're choosing not to answer that question. let me ask you another issue --
CLINTON: No, I'm -- no, wait a minute. I'm making the case for my candidacy. I'm very happy that I have -- I have strong supporters and I have editorial support. Well, you know, I think that voters will have to judge us, and that's what I welcome. I invite people to do that.

Right. Scrutiny is welcome, so long as it leads to an endorsement. Otherwise: DOES NOT COMPUTE!

Mr. Clinton's statement is indicative of a campaign running scared and being desperate. Having nothing positive that supercedes Mr. Obama they reach into the lowest part of their bag of tricks. To use a phrase such as "roll of the dice" without specifics only causes Americans to add their own meaning. Mr. Clinton's statement was an attempt to get Americans to react to the unknown of a Black president and many widely-held beliefs about Blacks in general. America is ready for Mr. Obama but it's questionable whether Americans are ready to really vote for a candidate for an office rather than allow systemic and false beliefs to be stirred up by a despicable statement from Bill Clinton.

With respect to experience Kucinich is the only candidate who actually reads what he votes on. In fact he is most clearly aligned with the preferences of the populace. If you ask him a question he will pause and just answer it. Hillary and the rest are way short on leadership, experience, honest and they are not in tune with the wishes of the people.
If you want more of the same, govt run by economic giants go with this crowd. If you want the govt to lead to constructive and caring change vote for DK.

I'm sorry to say that a republican is gonna win again in'08. Why? Because we can stand behind own candidates. And thanks to scumbags like Jason Linkins who repeats everything that he hears on Rush Slimebaugh's show. So much for being a progressive!

Shillary just can't answer questions, she is just pathetic and this video clip is a great example.

First the MSM plugs Hillary like crazy as the nominee early in the perpetual campaign. Then suddenly they see that oh s**t, maybe she won't be the nominee after all. And now, theyre going back to plugging her as the nominee. We have Gregory, Russert and Matthews throwing out occasional "tough questions" so it looks like they're actually doing their job. But it's just more of the same neocon MSM crap.

Why not ask her this. If all of the other candidates support Biden's civil rights record, then why don't all of you support Kucinich's right to be a part of the "fair and open democratic debate process"? But they can't do that because management told them we must destroy Kucinich at all costs. People who actually tell the truth aren't tolerated.

You can only judge what she is by who represents her. She has Bill answering and making up answers a she goes.

1)Kerry the poor lost soul calling Obama
a Moslem fanatical extremist,
2)Bill is knee capping Obama with the roll of the dice BS.
3) She has senoir management staff person saying he is not electable since he has done dope as a kid,
4) She has Bill just plan bull shitting about senior Bush being on HRC diplomatic team to restore our image. (you remember I did not have intercourse with her)
5) She has investigated Obamas kinder garden records.

It goes on and on, same old BS same as before even if its bad news it keeps Clintons name in the press.............and this is what we want for a President, Bull Shit...............go Obama

Unnecessarily hostile headline.

YES "ROLL THE DICE" ON INEXPERIENCE, THAT IS THE QUESTION.

HAS DAVID, CHRIS, TIM OR THE NETWORKS SPENT ANY TIME LOOKING IN DETAIL AT THE RECORDS OF EXPERIENCE OF THESE CANDIDATES, ESPECIALLY HILLARY'S AND OBAMA'S? NOT BY A LONG SHOT! THEY SPEND THEIR TIME ON SMALL GOTCHA INCIDENTS THAT MEAN NOTHING TO THE FUTURE PROBLEMS THEY WILL FACE AS PRESIDENTS.

A DETAIL STUDY OF THESE 2 CANDIDATES WOULD GIVE US THE ANSWER, BUT THAT'S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. AND WHAT WE WILL BE LEFT WITH IS ANOTHER TRAIN WRECK IN THE WHITE HOUSE.

Hilary is no more credible than Obama! Both are untested really! I, however, would go with Obama because his Presidency is a move forward for the country and I believe Hilary means business as usual or more pointedly a continuation of the Bush doctrines and practices!

My reaction to Gregory's question at the time was that it was typical pseudo-tough confrontation on a niggling point of language. In this case, what her husband said about Obama. Just like Russert he chastised her for not answering the question...which was a stupid question. Hillary saw a trap there, obviously. "Please tell us what your husband really meant when he suggested that Obama it might be risky to elect an untested politician as president." For chrissakes, is that really such a great question? It's just a typical "Gotcha!" questions and I'm sick and tired of that type of B.S. no matter who it's directed at. There's plenty of relevant, important, urgent issues to discuss without playing gotcha games over Bill's innocuous remarks on Charlie Rose.

Too bad the mediocre David Gregory couldn't find a little backbone and spunk and confront Dubya during the many press conferences I've observed where he gave that feckless thug a pass. What an idiot.

I wonder if he'll handle Jesus' cousin Mike Huckabee the same way or confront him on his "revivalist" campaign.

David Gregory, Tim Russert, Chris Matthews. What's the difference? Every time they get the chance to take a crack at Hillary, they become breathless with excitement, like guys on a first date trying to make it with a girl. Matthews show has become 75% Hillary bashing and 25% trying to get the guests to bash her as well. He ought to rename it the Hillary Show!

Good for her. Gregory got just what he deserved with his transparent, contrived questions. Why is she answerable for what her husband says, anyway?

Shame they never ask McCain, Bush's new found buddy, anything hard.

"Here's a quote," Obama said with a smile. "'The same old experience is irrelevant. You can have the right kind of experience or the wrong kind of experience. And mine is rooted in the real lives of real people, and it will bring real results if we have the courage to change.'"

"And that was Bill Clinton in 1992."

Hello fellow screw heads. Say here is a novel idea. Why don't you pull your head out of ass and use your brain and not judge whether a presidental candidate is likable or a good guy. Vote for someone who can get the job done. Don't vote for someone because he/she seems like a nice person. Who give a sh*t if they are nice as long as they are qualified and have the experience to make a difference and undo all fu*k ups the US Gov't has committed over the last 7 plus years. This is what matters. In closing rememember when they did a pole back in 2000 about which pres candidate you'd like to have a beer with? yeah how did that turn out for all you GW supports? So vote on issues important to you. Just exclude the religious preference unless you want another dictator or cleric in the white house. Thanks for your ear.

"GREGORY: So you're choosing not to answer that question. let me ask you another issue -- "

That was a brilliant try David. But it will not work with the programmed not-so-candid-date.
