The Swamp:

It may be one of Iowa's first ever TV ads that wish people a Merry Christmas and then ends with the federally required disclaimer: "I approved this message."

Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor, and Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, are renewing their TV air war with each candidate putting up new ads to promote their campaigns.

Huckabee's is done in a Christmas-card like setting, in front of a decorated tree, the candidate wearing a red sweater and "Silent Night" playing in the background. Romney's ad attacks Huckabee's record in Arkansas on crime issues.

This is so sad...sad indeed that a politician uses religion and symbolism to gather support regardless of personal record.

When Huckabee can state his platform without using religion then I might listen, but to do it with such a deception and hidden symbolism is exactly what Huckabee will bring to the office of president.

Actions speak louder than words.

Bunk to all of this. Religion out of Government and cut off the matched funding for this stuff.

Bunk!

Sinclair Lewis, who Paul quoted, also wrote the book "Elmer Gantry", which pretty much predicted the rise of a Huckabee, among others.

I don't see how Jesus gets anything done as much time as he has to spend on the campaign trail these days.

What with all the hidden imagery?
Why can't Huckawad just come out and tell us that he is God's choice for president.
Oh, that's right, he did.

Politicizing Jesus?
Over the past year we have heard from the “Right” criticizing Democrats for “politicizing” a Child in their important SCHIP TV message. Some of the water carriers verbally accosted the child!
Rudy Goulie has politicized 9/11 with his Law and Order campaign of a noun, verb and 9/11 speeches.
Both sides have accused each other of “Politicizing the Troops” to impart their message.
Now comes Huckabee, Republican Candidate for President with his new Television advertisement that the media is referring to as the “Baby Jesus” ad. During it’s 30 seconds, a Cross in the background, Huckabee speaks over “Silent Night” as he reminds everyone about the meaning of Christmas.
Is Mr. Huckabee politicizing JESUS, probably! Is he sincere in his words, most assuredly, he is after all an ordained Baptist Minister.
Which leads me to ask two questions, will anyone attack Huckabee for Politicizing Jesus and sine when does this Country care more for a persons Religious beliefs than their capabilities to effectively run this Country?

Sorry Rightwing, you can’t have it both ways, (unless your name is Craig or Hassert or...)

Change Ron Paul's comment from the future tense to the present tense, and it would be precisely right.

I’m in advertising and I must tell you this a great ad for the evangelical base that is weighing down the GOP, and it would be a snow balls chance in hell before I’m going vote another guy preaching compassionate conservatism, Bush wore that brand out. How about just plain compassion, yea that’s an idea. What is with these Christians who want to blow Iran off the face of the Earth anyway.

I hear this nonsense from my evangelical neo-con Catholic brother-law every time the family gets together, he preaches 2nd amended rights, yet he thinks American’s are to free, not to mention he’s never fired a gun in life, national security, yet he doesn’t accept that their were no Iraqis on the planes on 9-11. It’s like trying to have a conversation with Bill’O; I keep waiting to have my microphone cut off. I know he dose not read a paper or watch C-Span, If he bothered to seek real news he would know that Pope Benedict, not my favorite has come out against the Iraq war, the same war that Pope John Paul warned Bush personally not to start. He only listens to the church when it about superficial issues likes the evils of the Golden Compass. By the way he loves pastor Huckarbee.

On PBS I watched conservative ranchers interviewed in the West who can’t afford fuel for their equipment or feed for their cattle. They have been living in harmony with Mexicans for years. One rancher complained that compassionate conservatism was putting him out of business.

As for the Huckster Christmas political ad, all he needed was a lamb by his side, while rocking the baby Jesus in his arms. The cross, disguised as a window with the soft box lighting was a nice touch. Great theater, good writing and production value, the question being, is the compassionate conservatism brand wore out.

Sorry about the miss-post I know Sean Insanity could ruin anyones day.

Alan Colmes has a radio call in show, which I occasionally catch while passing though the Albany NY area. The brain-trust that Fox calls an audience call him thinking that he is Sean Insanity, trust me when I say the bozos who call in, do so from the local bar, if this is the voice of conservative America were in more trouble than I thought, most of them have had one to many and really ignorant on the issues. As for Gordon who, I think he got it right the 1st time. Sean makes me ashamed to be Catholic and Irish, where all not lying, war mongering fascist you know.

Some of these comments gave me a good chuckle! :)

The ad....is what it is. What can ya say?
I actually expected something more "Jesus-y" after reading the headline.

Huck is playing to his base. It'll work on some. Others will know that even though he says he means to ignore politics in the ad, it is indeed a political move.

Whatever.

He probably should have let Mitt drive it across the country on top of the CAR. What's with these people and animals? They say they are the "moral majority" and yet they treat animals like crap, cannot imagine what they will do with people.
Please not another bible thumper in the WH, we've already had this psycho in there for seven years, and all the while "God" has been talkin to him, I think George gets confused sometimes, must be the booze. It wasn't God, just the little voices in his head.

I like Huckabee. I know it pisses off our media planners in NY, LA and Tel Aviv whenever Jesus is discussed.

The Book of Revelations warns against false prophets and false religions during the End Times.

And now, here comes Huckabee, invoking the name of Jesus to justify a political movement that is dedicated to white supremacy, bigotry, lack of compassion, quarantining of sick people (ever heard of Lazarus, Mike?).

But Hey! Politics mirrors society, and most lower middle class white people in America know the party's over and there's not enough room in the lifeboats for everybody, so it's every white man for himself and to Hell with the minorities of any kind, right Mike???
