Cia Tape And New York Times

The White House argues that the newspaper article implies that "there is an effort to mislead in this matter," adding that such a conclusion is "pernicious and troubling."

Catherine Mathis, senior vice president of corporate communications for the newspaper, stated that the sub-headline has been changed, adding that a correction would be printed. However, Mathis also pointed out that the White House did not challenge the contents of the article.

If the headline was accurate it should've stayed

If the headline was inaccurate the NYT did the proper thing after being asked (not told) by the Admisistration

Why would anyone want an inaccurate headline? Why would anyone change an accurate headline?

The White House has no business calling a paper and demanding headline changes. Sorry, I forgot that was before our country went Fascist republican...

What? I am freedom of speechless!
NYT should NOT have changed its subheadline! The story now becomes a bright spotlight on the freedom of the press situation! Perhaps Bush+Co just forgot that those of us in flyover country still cling to the illusion of a free press... while on the coasts, manipulation is so open. I am shaking my head with amazement. How Congress continues to get away with shirking its impeachment DUTIES is beyond me.

The funniest part has to be that the tapes were destroyed to protect the identity of the perpertrators ... yet somehow every night we witness videos with pixelated faces to protect identities. I guess the CIA doesn't have the technology to do that yet ... :)

Where is the outcry?

Every nation on earth can view the once great USA in absoulte shame. Just a few short years, we've become the butt of the world.

And the NYTimes responded, asking GW Bush to clarify his statement:

"We don't torture."

.
The TrickyDi'ck and Clinton impeachment hearing were justified on FAR LESS DAM'NING INFORMATION than exists for the high crimes and misdemeanors of DickNBush.

Will somebody please pull Nancy "Impeachment-is-off-the-table" Pelosi's head out of her a**, so that these criminals can get the justice they deserve?

"The White House called this sub-headline inaccurate and demanded that it be corrected".

The biggest liars and propagandists that we've seen in decades are demanding that others be accurate and truthful.......now that's funny......well, it would be, if the whole thing weren't so sad and sickening in it's reality, that is.

NYTimes editorial staff should be publicly tarred and feathered.
How dare they cave in to the W puppet show's sponsors!?!?!?!
WTF?
It's completely transparent now that the media is bought and sold, and is controlled by the neocon elitists!

Wow, some people still think the American media is "free"...

The press in Nazi Germany would be a more appropriate reference: not allowed to publish anything without approval from above.

If that headline is a factual characterization, why on Earth would they change it?

Pernicious can't be a word that numbnuts came up with. Not only can't he spell it, he can't say it, or understand it's meaning. Sounds smart though...and god knows he works REAL HARD at looking smart! I'm guessing if he tried to pronounce it, it would come out something like perniscupatious...or something like that. Don't misunderestimate his ability to be a pantleg on the pitbull of opportunity...or something like that.
