Look, I understand that not everyone wants to stay home and watch "It's A Wonderful Life" over the holidays, but there's something that doesn't quite scan about this jovial MSNBC doc-block ad advertising upcoming documentaries. "Season's Beatings from Lock-Up!" intones the creepy, faux-cheery voice. "Deck the halls - be jolly! 'Tis the season to be 'Born in the Wrong Body'" (a little gender-bending to add some spice to the usual fare of prison docs and CSI-riffic "Dark Heart, Iron Hand" true crime docs). Upbeat holiday music plays over footage of savage beatings; just to drive it home, a thug angrily smashes some glass with a baseball bat. Meanwhile, in another ad (from which the screengrab above was taken), the last thing you hear is a child screaming "Dad!" as his father is grabbed by the cops. Aw! God bless us, every one!

"the last thing you hear is a child screaming "Dad!" as his father is grabbed by the cops."

actually, the little "girl" was screaming DADDY because he had just sunday-punched the female officer who had pulled him over -- that punched knocked her unconscious then he proceeded to shatter the bones in her face with a beating you wouldn't see on UFC. --WHY: something to do with her finding a ganja roach in the ash tray.

WAAAAAAY overkill on the beating and shocking he did it in front of his 9(sic) year old daughter ...

MSNBC incredibly cheap. amazing that they recycle the same tired DOCs week after month after year --

as to the reason for the ads? that's easy . . . it's the neo-zion-right-wing atheist's war on christmas -- ya know, the same people that bring us "X-MAS" sales every year. (please don't give me that, "it's an abbreviation horseshit! you don't see: HAPPY X-GIVING; HAPPY X-TINE'S DAY, HAPPY X-OWEEN OR HAPPY X-UKKAH, now do we?)

the X is intended to "cross out" the name of christ.

where the hell is bill o'relly when you need him? oh -- sorry -- wait... that's right - he thinks it's the secular progressives waging the war on x-mas.

Kinda creepy? I'd say extremely creepy.

Better this junk than watching Li'l Tucker.
Is anyone else disappointed with MSNBC? When they first came on I was looking forward to an all-news station with the clout of NBC News behind it. Now, with the exception of Keith, this is the crap we get. What a waste of the airwaves.

High on my "What were they thinking?" list. It reminds me of those commercials on Fox for some anti-fat regimen in which a buff bonehead who looks like a pro wrestler spends 30 seconds insulting an overweight woman. You expect to attract my business with THIS? It's like finding dog shit smeared on your porch.

Probably one of the most vile advertisements I have ever seen for television. They sure want to keep us scared; if it isn't bin Laden, pay attention, it could be you! You could be incarcerated in a secret prison and look what awaits you.
Keep us in fight or flight mode, the shock doctrine. Think about dissenting, this is what awaits you.
That Americans can sit and allow this to pass through the air waves as entertainment is no surprise. It is pathetic and immoral, but no surprise.
