More than four years after the United States invaded Iraq, the country's children continue to face a litany of problems from disrupted educations to unsafe drinking water, detentions and violence, UNICEF reported Friday.

Violence and displacement often kept Iraqi children out of school this year. The organization estimates that 2 million educations were interrupted, especially among primary-school students.

UNICEF should show pictures of children with their little limbs missing and their little bodies burnt by our bombs.

UNICEF should also print names of those children. (They do have names).

Americans need to be told in as much detail as possible what has been done in their name.

^Among the preliminary report's findings:

* Twenty-eight percent of Iraq's 17-year-olds took final exams this summer; 40 percent in south and central Iraq passed.

* Eighty percent of children outside Baghdad don't have working sewers in their communities, limiting access to safe water.

* An average of 25,000 children per month were displaced within Iraq by violence or intimidation.

* An estimated 760,000 children were out of primary school in 2006, and 220,000 more displaced children had their educations interrupted in 2007.

* By the end of 2007, about 75,000 children were living in camps or temporary shelter.

* About 1,350 children were detained by military and police, "many for alleged security violations."

Eighty percent of children outside Baghdad don't have working sewers in their communities, limiting access to safe water.

Missed 'school days' is the least of their problems, but certainly one that will have lasting effects inaddtion to their living conditions.
The "US" oil co's have been poking sticks at this hornets nest called the middle east for decades. Bush & Cheney decided it would be better to come at it with sledge hammers , leaving US to take the deadly multitude of stings.
Granted they could be so incompetent/ arrogant that this just fell apart beneath them- now just trying to hold on. but more likely- seeing the manueveing abilities- this is the intended outcome oftheir 'stratedgy'.
Destablize the region and US.
Who wins...follow the money!!

How many have left our country already, seeing the writing on the wall. Did they buy a World Island or a branch off Palm Island. Nice views.
We may be just being held at the gates while the others slip out the back.

But none from the Bush/Cheney gene pool so it doesn't matter.

Now lets buy stuff for baby Jesus and forget about that.

Where is Laura Bush? Where is BabBar Bush?

Shouldn't they be in Iraq now speaking up and telling the children, and their mothers, if alive, how well they are doing and how happy they should be that hubby/son has destroyed their country?

I suddenly had a flash. War is not healthy for children and other living things! Who'd have thought?

War is good, however, for certain corporations, like Halliburton, and their executives, like Cheney. But then they are bloodless, unliving things even if the SCOTUS likes to pretend otherwise.

!
Bush is absolute proof that there is no god, at least a just and loving god.

If there were such an entity, Bush would have been struck by lightning long, long ago.

But isn't this the price Iraqis must pay for Bush's compassionate democratization of their country? Isn't this pretty much like the Rome's Carthaginian Peace? God help any country who is helped by the U.S.

It is this type of consequence of bush/cheney wrongheadedness that will damn this country for decades to come.

Even if we could elect the Dali Lama or the Pope himself as president, they couldn't resurrect our good name to the people of the world.

While we might bemoan the loss of life and treasure by this inexcusable blunder called the bush administration, we cannot repurchase our good name.

While I realize many posters on this site want the impeachment of these 2; we need to make all of those who activiely supported this regime to make atonement to our nation for foisting this pair on us and our posterity.

Perhaps a tatoo on the forehead that says "I am responsible for this mess"..

Bush/cheney are what they are, but the voters that let this happen TWICE need to apologize to the rest of us for what has happened and what is still to come.

All these children will grow up and love us. I'm sure of that. They will never even think about hurting Americans. This is how you prevent future terrorism against us.
