For weeks Mike Huckabee has avoided Tim Russert while touring the Sunday-morning talk-show circuit. NBC's Washington bureau chief has lobbied hard to get Huckabee on Meet the Press, but Huckabee has shied away from Russert's withering Q&A.

Until now. Huckabee is going live on the show this Sunday (as is Barack Obama), four days before the Iowa caucuses. His comments with Russert will likely be his final narrative before Iowans vote, so his appearance is a major gamble. If Russert lands a few blows--which, with Huckabee's record, is likely--the always-fluid Republican race will be shaken and stirred once again. A preemptive look at who has the most at stake.

Sioux City Journal
SIOUX CITY -- When the U.S. took its focus off those who attacked us on 9/11 by invading Iraq, it allowed a resurgent al Queda and Taliban to sow unrest and instability in a truly nuclear-armed country, Pakistan. The Marine commandant now advocates shifting his entire command to Afghanistan to meet this dire threat instead of policing the Iraq Civil War.

The next U.S. president will not have time for a "learning curve" in coming to grips with the wide ranging threats emerging in the Middle East. Time to develop personal diplomatic relationships with Shia, Sunni, Kurdish, Turkish, Iranian, Afghani, Pakistani and other vital countries leadership will be at a premium. Ability to forge domestic bipartisan policies will also be immediately required.

Sen. Joe Biden needs no such education. His foreign policy expertise has already led to a widely accepted Iraqi stabilization plan, one adopted by the U.S. Senate (co-sponsored by Sen. Sam Brownback). He has already met with all Iraqi factions on stabilization initiatives. Biden's personal relationship and knowledge of all world leaders as chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee may be unequaled by any other single American.

It is no accident that Senator Biden has come out on top in every single Democratic debate. He won't hit the ground running, he is already there working to protect America. -- Michael J. O'Brien

If Tiny Tim tiptoes thru the tulips and puts the boot in to ole Hucklberry, the stigmata will appear to prove that he truly is the chosen one!

You can run but you can't hide from Tim's all seeing eyes!

The ordained Southern Baptist Minister, Reverend Huckabee should never be underestimated. He is probably the best speaker out any of the candidates, Democratic or Republican, and has the ability to connect with the social conservatives. These primary voters are extremely vocal and have a great deal of political power particularly for their numbers in the South and the Bible Belt.

His followers will not be deterred by any "gotcha" moments that Russert may try to trap the Preacherman with. This is a unique populist candidate who will do better than expected especially with the Revival Tent Republicans who are demanding power within the GOP. Ultimately he will not be at the top of the ticket, but the VeeP position might have to be given to him.

It hardly matters what Mike Huckabee says on MTP or how he finishes amongst evangelical voters in Iowa.

His radical, non-secular statements in the past may "gin" up some temporary enthusiasm amongst a narrow subset of "social values" voters, but they don't stand up to rational critique by the much larger group of moderate- or independently-minded Republicans elsewhere in the country.

Tim Russert, should he choose to do so, can simply ask one or two of his famous "gotcha" questions and Huckabee will be finished. He and his supporters will be left with nothing other than delusions about something called "the rapture".

I don't know what Meet the Press you saw with Romney, but the one I saw had Mittler clearly bleeding from every orifice from little Timmy beating him like a red headed step child.

Huckabee is a skilled preacher and applies his clown make up like a PRO. He'll be a cagey target for Russert to nail down.
