The Huffington Post has learned that, in a move bound to create controversy, the New York Times is set to announce that Bill Kristol will become a weekly columnist in 2008. Kristol, a prominent neo-conservative who recently departed Time magazine in what was reported as a "mutual" decision, has close ties to the White House and is a well-known proponent of the war in Iraq. Kristol also is a regular contributor to Fox News' Special Report with Brit Hume.

Update: The New York Times has confirmed the decision to hire Kristol.

I don't see what difference this makes. I'm more concerned about the journalists writing for the front page than for the editorial page. If the NYT were bringing back Judith Miller—now that would upset me.

Is an Ad Hominem attack vs. Kristol acceptable, o venerable HuffPo moderator?

Because I consider Bill Kristol a traitor to this country, am I allowed to say that?

My reasoning is that he was an original signatory to th PNAC document and has been a tireless lobbyist for war war and more war, a sissy cheerleader [like W] urging the U.S. to establish its own mega-caliphate over the entire Middle East. And this [expletive deleted] still thinks a third front in Iran's "a good thing" --- the Martha Stewart of bad-bad-bad-strategy foreign policy concoctions.

That such a lunatico is given an NYT venue to spout his Dan Quayle-like wisdom verges on insanity.

Maybe the Times should print his column only in Esperanto thus sharply limiting the number of people exposed to his "thoughts."

It cracks me up to see all you libs freaking out. "oooo! Bill Kristol is going to be typing words onto paper! The world is coming to an end! oh God! oh Jesus help me!"

Way to defend the first ammendment, dicks.

Pres.Clinton signed the Iraq Liberation Act which stated, "...it should be the policy of the United States to support efforts to remove the regime of Saddam Hussein from power in Iraq and to promote the emergences of a democratic government to replace that regime..."

-- We are dealing with a threat, I think, that is probably harder for some to understand because it is a threat of the future...and the threat that that poses to the neighbors, to the stability of the Middle East, and therefore ultimately to ourselves -- Sec.State Albright

-- Iraq is a long way from here, but what happens there matters a great deal here...if you don't stop a horrific dictator before he gets started too far...he can do untold damage. -- Sec.State Albright

-- "...even a contained Saddam was harmful to stability and positive change in the area...Saddam's history of aggression and his recent record of deception and defiance, leave no doubt the he would resume his drive for regional domination if he had the chance." -- Clinton Adviser Berger.

What's the point? Well, it's not to bash the Clinton administration...but to point out that Kristol's neocon views of confronting a threat before it escalates is virtually the same view held by the Clinton administration concerning Saddam.

9/11 drew a bright line that necessitated action rather than talk. The action that Pres.Bush took is open to endless arguments about its effectiveness, but...

Kristol's neocon view on Iraq was consistent with the democrat administration of Clinton...and his views are worth a look...agree or not...in the NYTimes.

I can't imagine what those elitists at the NY Times are thinking. Doesn't the planet already have enough of these Conservative propagandists. America might be better served with commentary from those who don't suffer from LOW GRADE THOUGHT PROCESSES.

Cancelled my subscription to the NYT two weeks ago. Looks like I got out in the nick of time. Anyone who would pay a fee to have this man's (and I use the term loosely) opinion delivered to their home, deserves what they get. Is the times trying to pick up some of the Fox News groupies? (she asks rhetorically).

Why? Wasn't the WSJ or NYP available?

This is so bad on so many fronts. Billy "the bloody" Kristol has not been correct or truthful since before this criminal/corrupt administration took over our government. Every prediction he has ever advanced has been wrong. Every plan he and the other neocons have advanced has been flawed, at best and total failures at worst. He is totally insincere in his opinions.

Just what the New York Times needs. The Grey Lady needs to go further to the Right wing of the republican party. What once was a bastion of good reporting and honest opinion has turned into a whore for the republican party. Judith Miller wrote about the "lies" of Al Gore, what she wrote about was the distortions of Al Gore. what she wrote about were the talking points of the GOP and the RNC. The NYT times has been turning itself into republican lite over the past seven years. The apologized about their reporting up to and including the invasion of Iraq a few years ago. It was an apology that was less the honest. They still , for the most part opine on the side of this criminal/corrupt administration. Having William "Bloody" Kristol as a guest columnist is such a big step for them to make from the Newspaper of Record to the Newspaper of Propaganda. I wrote the NYT's about my dismay at this fool being made part of a newspaper that I had trusted for over 35 years as a source of news and information that could be trusted.

Anyone notice, as I did on Fox News (I was flipping channels and stopped when I saw him - really! Can't stand watching Fox for more than a minute or two at a time!) that he has the same s***-eating grin that Dubbya has when he is speaking (see Bob Cesca's excellent piece if you haven't already to see what I am talking about)?

If you read the NYT letters responding to David Brooks glib mutterings, you will realize it will be good to expose the right wing rants of Kristol to the fine and informed minds who read the NYT-- I say bring it on.

When discredited and devious demons like 'K'rystal, 'K'arl Rove, and Tom DeLay continually get a forum in our MSM, we're sunk. The "Old Grey Lady" takes on a discernably different coloration, (sh*t brown) is what I'm thinking, by taking on the likes of Billy Boy, here. The Neo-cons have had too prominent a place in the media, for far too long, already. A major shift is wanted and necessary if we're ever going to pull ourselves out of the morass into which the Bush Cabal has taken us.
When will the media wake the hell up.

What do you have to do to get shunned in this country? Lie, start a war, get thousands killed, be a total factually impaired propagandist...? Nah. Do that and you get a column in the NYTimes. Pathetic.
