Sean Penn And Robin Wright Penn Divorcing

Sean Penn may soon be a single man walking. Robin Wright Penn has filed for divorce from the actor and director, according to media reports.

Papers were filed Dec. 21 in Marin County Superior Court. Wright Penn cited irreconcilable differences as a reason for the split, which was first reported by the Web site CelebTV.com.

The couple has two teenage children and are seeking joint custody.

with his marriage in ruins, maybe Sean can now focus more of his energy towards liberal causes by way of making a gigantic ass of himself.

This wasn't a marriage between Princess Buttercup and Jeff Spicoli. A lot of the posts here are confusing the actor's roles with the actual people themselves, and with Hollywood, the public persona is just another tool to sell something.

We may never know what happened privately between these two but divorce is a tragedy when there are children involved. Even fame and money can't repair what the children experience.

As far as divorce literature goes, it's typically the woman who files for divorce, FWIW ~ though there can be a disconnection well before that, from either partner. And prior to filing for separation or divorce, there is sometimes an attempt by one of the partners to re-engage the other ~ through such means as family pressure, marital counseling, having a baby, financial ties that bind the couple, etc., etc.

Still, for many people ... the good news is that, as far as statistics are concerned, approx. half of all marriages do survive, while the other half fail (as far as I've heard/read). And, for those that do last over the years, marital satisfaction reported by couples is pretty good, fairly high ... & even better in cases of empty nesters who have successfully raised their children together.

Sean Penn & Robin Wright Penn & so many others (celebrity & non-celebrity status) just aren't able to make it to the Empty Nest stage that we hope to reach ... but, fortunately, a lot do! However, the bad news is that second and third marriages don't succeed as often.

Goodness, my heart goes out to Sean, Robin & their children. I wish them both much happiness in life ~ whatever they felt they were lacking ~ post divorce. I can imagine that it's not an easy time for any of them, esp. with their difficulties on public display. I wish them all the very best in life!

Honey! I have a new girlfriend. Better give Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock the bad news.

I like Sean, but I think he's crazy.

BTW, my father never finished college, and I would pit him against any poster here for intellectual capacity. Even so, its not saying much. One's profession does not make one's intelligence, and one's percieved intelligence is rarely a great point for good governance.

Fact is both are excellent w/ what they do. I'll forever have a thing for her after "Princess Bride." I was a teenager when that one came out and will always remember her lines: Oh, farm boy! My dear Wesley.

And w/ Penn, he's a brillant actor who I wish would have taken the role of joker in the latest Batman movie. I'd like to seem him go agaisnt type and do some comedies as well.

It seems that there needs to be an equilibrium that is maintained between the number of marriages and divorces co-occurring for those whose life has the (mis)fortune to be under the microscope. It's a tenous balance that is maintained - so here is to Alba's turn in happy union, and Penn and Wright may yet get another chance when the next marriage dissolves.
