AS Katie Couric puts a wrap on her first calendar year as anchor of the last-place "CBS Evening News," she's staring at some sobering stats: more than 1.1 million viewers have tuned her out over the last 12 months.

That's as if 100 percent of the households in Los Angeles had watched her last year and every last one of them shut their sets off last week. And that's really not that funny because the embattled newscast does particularly bad in the City of Angels.

Oh, but she has made SUCH good contacts for hair and personal needs in Manhattan! Fluffy multi-millionaire morning show hosts were not cut out to be real journalists. Just ask Charlie Gibson.

She sucks, that sums it up, way over rated and dumber than a box of rocks. Ciao Ms. Couric!

"Perky" is an anti-gravitas device. Fluff has more substance.

When Couric in her snarky, condescending way tore into Elizabeth and John Edwards right after Mrs. Edwards went public with her cancer recurrence, I tuned out Couric permanently. I'll never watch another program she's on.

The woman (1) has a terrible voice (just turn off the video, or turn away from the screen, and listen to her shriek!), and (2) of lesser importance, is not physically attractive in her facial features. She looks like the witch in a fairytale movie to me. Had CBS chosen a female newscaster with an appealing voice, such as Martha Teichner, they would have done much much better.

The very last time I tuned into CBS News was during Couric's first week and they interviewed Rush Limbaugh and offered him a platform to spew his divisive hate speech. Never again have I tuned into their news program and never will I.

In all fairness to Kate it really is the networks fault for dumbing down the public with phony propaganda and outright lies dressed up as news backed up by moronic analysis it was only a matter of time before the tactics worked on the viewers dumbing them down to the point where they can no longer remember how to use or make any sense at all of the baffling remote control!

Katie isn't all that bad but Brian on NBC impressed the hell out of me during Katrina so I'm sticking with him. Maybe she needs to get out in the muck and the mire for a bit.to improve her over all reception.

Well she's made a lot of money for having no apparent skills of any sort. What she does shouldn't be confused with news reporting.

I like the fact that CBS is paying for there bad planning, which is reflected in their ratings. The viewers are very savvy, and trust me, CBS can't afford poor numbers in their primary news drive. It must be interesting to be in the board room when the subject of Katie comes up. The fact is, someone is going to loose their job if Katie stays. I just hope these new guys don't mess with the internet and try to come in this direction.

Watching the transition to Internet news and major networks who have been losing "major share" to cable (and perhaps not google-analytics which interrupts my entry here) for a number of years, I think CBS has done an interesting job of supplying information online, with "Couric & Co." and her notebook entries, tough questions for candidates, etc. The "ratings" are partly the reason TV (Howard Stern will do anything for ratings) sometimes gets it wrong. Enough google-analytics leave me alone!

Yo' guys trust me this is the truth!

Ok guys get ready to spread the word! Now look, I have this on solid source of information: CBS-ABC-NBC will institute Topless Tuesday's on Evening news! Viewers are gonna flock to the tubes(aka boob-tube watch @ 6:30pmEST).

Now trust me, I got this from a friend who's sister get's her hair done in Manhattan; who overheard it at a restaurant from two guys that work in the studio set-up crew. It seems these two guys were doing set-up work and were asked if they to do a special on "Operation-Uplift"! Although all networks have plauseable DENIABILITY, it's a bet that Brian Williams will come in second! Charlie Gibson has objected because he just can't measure up to Matt Lauer's six-pack rack. Which means Matt might be courted by ABC.

Concerning Katie, I think she will be the Tuesday star that she's meant to be. She is a darn handsome 30's somethin woman. Ok 40's something. But damn, that smile combined with the Boob-Tube approach. Guys that's a winner.
He numbers will be up to 38c catagory(38mil viewers)

If this spreads, then Financial watch/stock market talking heads "Maria" might very well be MIZ-TVBOOB TUBE personality of the year.

I do NOT want a "hot chick" reading the news. I want a mature woman actually writing her own news copy, and delivering it with authority. Cokie Roberts would do very nicely.

I don't get the sense that Our Katie is too terribly bright, and every time she gives that toothy, gummy grin I just want to run and hide. Besides, I've read too many articles about her bragging on the sexual prowess of her newest little boy-toy. Ugh. Double-Ugh.

Not really fair to dump CBS' downturn on Couric.

It began with Blather's lies & falsehoods & continues today.

Couric is a pretender. Enough said.

CBS could promote a real reporter at a million or so a year and spend the other 14 she was getting on correspondents, producers and crews.

BTW- could Canada take back all their citizens polluting American TV? A nation of 300 million shouldn't have to import journalists.

.
Although not widely understood, Fox's "Anchorwoman" - which had only ONE show broadcast - was a carefully crafted take-off of CBS News with Katie ("Tarting-up, Dumbing-Down") Couric. The reason the fox show failed is, like Couric, it was shallow, fully predictable and boring.

At least the fox execs had enough sense to realize their failure and flush their Anchorwoman. The tragedy here is that, once again, CBS execs have proven too stupid to do the right thing, so the real Anchorwoman, fluff-master Couric, is allowed to continue polluting the airwaves.

Personally, I think Katie is a wonderful person, but the TODAY show mentality does not work for me on the network news. In fact I do not watch any network news channels anymore (MSM has lost their way). Very slanted! Faux "news"is a joke and I never watch it or anything that Rupert is involved in. The most reliable information I get from Huffington Post and BBCNews.com. Everything else is slanted towards the rich elite that now control the country thanks to the idiot Bush and the stupidity of the American public. In viewing the presidential candidates, it appears that John Edwards is the only one who can try to undo the massive damage that the Bush crime family and all republicans in congress have come very close to destroying the country I love so much and served in combat in Vietnam for. I truly believe that America will wake up and put a decent person in the WH who cares about average Americans, not the rich. (Fear mongering will not work this time).

Did Couric really have that many viewers ?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:49 PM on 12/31/2007

Come to think of it, about 1.1 million people over the age of 70 probably died this year. That would explain the loss of her viewers (who are more on the younger end of the curve)

I guess the comment, "Yes, these are real" really didn't help that much, ay Kate?

Katie Couric, should the downward chart arrow be in red or pink? What do you think?
