The International Peace Operations Association, which is the trade association for mercenaries inspired by the efforts of mercenary group Executive Outcomes to end the Sierra Leone Civil War, has parted ways with Blackwater. Apparently Blackwater doesn't want to follow the group's conduct code, the "set of ethical and professional guidelines for companies in the peace and stability operations industry." Initially Blackwater, a member in good standing since 2004, agreed to be reviewed by the group after the accusations that the company killed 17 Iraqis in Baghdad last month. Now they don't want to be reviewed.

I've read a bunch of liberal books recently that touch on mercenaries and their politically threatening overtones: The End of America, Blackwater, and the Shock Doctrine.

If we didn't need it in the past, we need one now:

A law prohibiting the creation of private militias.

If we can't get that, we should at least outlaw the U.S. Government - and any any state or local government - from hiring companies that provide mercenary services. In short regarding tasks that involve firearms or spying, if any organization within our federal governement already does the job, it's illegal for any element of government to hire an outside agency.

...BTW, of course, these days NOBODY admits voting for the current administration!

To the people who voted for this regime. Will you at sometime stand up and make your voice heard? What have we become?

It's certainly disconcerting when the trade association for mercenaries "parts ways" with a member group because they don't want to follow the group's code of conduct. I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I somehow don't think that their code of conduct guidelines is all that stringent. The moniker that was decided on by this organization did give me pause- The International Peace Operations Association. Someone there has a devilish sense of humor.

Blackwater is such a fascist organization, and to think it's run by a so-called Christian! I say let's dismantle the whole damn company.

Ban these effen privet armies. All of them are UN-AMERICAN.
