As presidential hopefuls from both parties rally support across Iowa ahead of Thursday's caucuses, Democratic voters are showing greater fervor for the race than their Republican counterparts, a difference that could have repercussions throughout the 2008 campaign.

At its simplest, there is a political energy gap. Democrats appear to be more fired up about their party nominating contest than are Republicans. Democrats in Iowa and New Hampshire have been turning out at rallies in greater numbers than Republicans and giving more money to candidates. In Iowa, polls indicate Democrats will be attending the Thursday night caucuses in record numbers.

"There seems to be a little more juice on the Democratic side," says Republican pollster Bill McInturff.

"Republicans have a lot of work to do to get to the intensity level Democrats are at today," agrees Terry Nelson, a Republican strategist who previously headed the campaign of Arizona Sen. John McCain.

I am from a very republican state (Remember Sam Brownback?) and of the 57 people I work with, only one will publicly defend the republican candidates...and her life is all about abortion and banning it, so I don't assume she even thinks about how her own life has been so dramatically affected by what the current administration has done to her negatively affect her life and about the other policies the GOP candidates espouse. And when she does mention any other issue, it sounds like Bill O'Reilly/Hannity/limbaugh blather. She is one of those 24%ers who sure have a lot of hatred for Gore and Clinton and and democratic leaning folks yet who professes to be such a strong Christians. Yes, I suspect several who voted republican last time won't do so in 2008.

When I look at the Democratic slate, I try to think which one would be the best. They are all terrific, and whoever will lead the ticket should pick the cabinet members from this roster.

On the other hand, when looking at the Republican line-up, I am hard-pressed to find the one that I hate the least. What a despicable bunch, each and every one of them.

Well, you have modern people being asked to vote AGAIN for right-wing Neanderthals. We've just seen the results of seven years of right-wing Neanderthal government. And the other side has modern candidates capable of intelligent thought. This country is in a mess after seven years of total Republican government, there's no running away from that.

Even the 24 percenters that still claim to support these criminals appear to be disgusted (maybe they do have a working brain) with the lying, corrupt, pedophile republican party. They will be a small minority for a generation.
