The presidential candidates spent the last Sunday before the Iowa caucuses attending church services and staging big rallies to make last-minutes appeals as new polls suggested tightening races in both the Democratic and Republican fields.

With three Democrats scrambling for the lead in Iowa, which holds its caucuses on Thursday, the candidates tried to paint their opponents as flawed for the challenges facing the nation.

It's interesting that the media has been so dismissive of Edwards, and pundits on both sides have been attacking him.

He is the only one of the candidates who really have a chance to be elected who doesn't support the status quo as far as business, trade, etc. He's the only one running as a populist.

Populists scare the shit out of the in crowd.

Democrats make it too complicated. Republicans have it nice and simple: Either you are pro-Jesus (Huckabee) or not. Simple.

None of this confuson about healcare plans and ending the war and environment and the rest of that nonsense.

Republicans know how to keep things nice and simple: Rapture/No Rapture

Edwards is the man.

He's the only candidate, besides Kucinich (my first choice), who will have a MANDATE if he is elected.

Our last nice guy President was Jimmy Carter, and that didn't turn out so great. Also in today's politics with the Republican attack machine as fierce as ever you really have to be partisan and strong. You can't coddle your opposition like Obama has implied he would. The new kind of politics Obama is talking about is a formula to lose an election.

People do not want a soft President, they want a leader with toughness. Hillary fits that mold that people want in a President. Some say she's too polarizing to win, but she's experienced, she's tough, and she's very smart, and ultimately she has what it takes win a general election. The Democrats are flipping a coin if they choose Obama as their nominee.

Firstly, I do not think that Sen Obama is "too nice" to be president. And what did I miss, since when is being nice an unfavorable Presidential quality.

Personally, I think Edwards may be a bit to angry. It is very hard to accomplish great things when you have a chip on your shoulder. I know, I know Edwards and the rest of America has every right to be angry at our leadership and the current situations domestic and abroad.

As my granny used to say.."you catch more flies with sugar than sh*t"

Edwards has turned me off with his snark and his growl. Large problems cause for cooler heads to prevail-pragmatism always end up on top.

Edwards and Obima are less than impressive.

Edwards double loser (Presidential candidate, Vice Presidential candidate) in 2004 after winning Iowa.

Obima, the most divisive unifier I've ever seen.

If only Huffpo could put little crowns on their heads, they'ld look so cute.

Unfortunately I don't think we want "cute" for Commander in Chief

I don't believe that Obama is too nice, but I do believe that he is not ready for the highest office in the land, he needs a longer resume.

illuminati (See profile | I'm a fan of illuminati)
I did not want to follow the other thread to the bottom of the page so I will start it up here...OIL...

Maybe we could STOP depending on the middle east for OIL if YOU liberals would let us DRILL in Alaska, California, or the Gulf of Mexico. Oh, right, you want us out of Middle Eastern oil, but dont have an answer how to get it. Right, I forgot.

The life of a couple birds that MIGHT die in Alaska are faaaar more important.
_______________________________________________

More drilling is not the answer. It wouldn't increase our reserves enough to mention and a good share of that oil is not top grade.

What IS needed is more money put into renewables like solar and wind, more money put into nuclear (better read up on it if you don't like it. new technologies make it extrememly safe) raising of CAFE standards (which Congress has done a little of, the Bush administration is pressuring states not to adopt the clean car initiative which goes further), recycling and conservation (which would save more oil than is predicted to be found in ANWAR and the gulf)

It's not about birds, it's about putting our resources to better use than perpetuating last centuries technology.

Go back to your socialist nazis, something you know a lot about.

heh...

In the meadow we can build a strawman
And pretend that he is Bush the clown.
He says "are you patriots" we'll say "no man!"
"We just want to burn this mother down!"

Later on, we'll perspire, as we vent all our ire.
We'll cry so afraid, the mess Dems have made, moaning 'bout another misplayed hand...
