DES MOINES--Republican Mike Huckabee, a Baptist minister, defended the role that faith plays in his life and said by his personal definition, it would be a miracle for him to defeat rival Mitt Romney in Iowa's lead-off caucuses.

Huckabee, a former Arkansas governor, said on NBC's "Meet the Press" today that potential caucus-goers have been "bombarded" with negative TV ads and mail from Romney and others, including during the recent Christmas holiday. Instead of Christmas cards, he said, "they were finding out what a bum Mike Huckabee is."

Huckabee also conceded that the attacks, including a series of commercials launched by Romney, a former Massachusetts governor, may have softened his support in recent weeks after polls had showed him overtaking Romney--the longtime Iowa GOP frontrunner.

The former Arkansas governor again maintained that Romney is running "a very desperate and, frankly, a dishonest campaign," not only against him but in ads targeting Sen. John McCain of Arizona in New Hampshire on the issue of illegal immigration.

Who ever wins in Iowa it'll be no miracle...just a statistical glitch yet to be worked out. Once they take this whole circus onto the road and into population centers with actual inellectual curiosity we'll begin to see the religious candidates begin to chase their tales up their conceptual nether regions in pursuit of evil.
When someone asks Mitt if all believers in God should be granted the same access to government...his government anyway...when can we expect to see a satanist or white witch perform the opening ceremony for congress or even a baseball game.
And when will someone ask Huckabee if, since prayer is so effective, why we don't just pay homeless to pray for America's solutions. After all, I'm sure he approved of his fellow religionist Georgia Republican Governor Sonny Perdue's public prayer to his immaginary friends to help us end this so-called drought.
And ask both of 'em why their god hates amputees?
One doesn't have to get nasty at all to point out how ridiculous religion is...just be vocal, knowledgable about history and science, logical and engaging.
Let's be honest, while most americans claim some religious affiliation, and try to act as if it was real, they think all the religious leaders are just filled with big piles of steamin' poop.
