Republican presidential candidate Duncan Hunter pulled a fast one on the cablers today, making a big ol' show of having an "announcement" today following his exclusion from Saturday's ABC debate and Sunday's Fox forum. Everyone assumed he was going to drop out; on CNN, Kyra Phillips broke away from her guest excitedly for a "big announcement' from Hunter. Hunter puffed out his chest and spoke belligerently about the suits at ABC and how they couldn't keep a good man down...no really, they couldn't keep a good man down. He's not going anywhere! He's staying, he's staying, and voters, voters, voters, they're gonna love him! In a neat inverse of the trend of announcing announcements from back in January, Duncan Hunter's announcement was that he...didn't have an announcement. As soon as they figured out what wasn't going on, CNN pulled away and went back to their regularly-scheduled program, and that was that. Odds are unlikely that the words "big announcement" will ever be heard in connection with Duncan Hunter again.
