Kristol Debuts With Embarrassing Error In First NYT Column

Bill Kristol Nyt

Talking Points Memo:

So those critics who argued against the appointment of Bill Kristol as a New York Times columnist because of the quality of his work -- rather than merely because of ideology -- will now have yet more proof that they were on to something.

That's because it looks as if Kristol's first column will already require a correction: Kristol seems to have attributed a quote to the wrong author.

What am I supposed to write here?

The HUGE problem and objection I have with Kristol getting a NYT column is: He's not lacking for exposure as a participant in the political dialogue in this nation. He's published all over the place, is on TV all time, and frequently sought to be a commentator for various optical events and issues. He’s one of the most prominent right-wing commentators on the scene already. Not lacking this exposure, the NYT column introduced no one new, and no new voice to the public dialogue. So why him instead of bringing more, and greater variety of views into political dialogue? It's like giving Nader, Michael Moore, or Keith Olberman a column, 3 commentators with significant--though less, access to having their views aired widely in the public sphere.

I must have misunderstood. I was under the impression that Mr. Kristol had built his entire career on one embarrassing mistake after another.

He's doing what he's supposed to, though: generating buzz for his employer on sites like this. I'm just happy my local paper reprints the NY Times' weekend crossword. I get the puzzle without the drek.

Damn...it used to be such a great newspaper, too.

Thye hired Kristol for the errors. If they wanted the truth they would have Barbra Ehrenreich write a column

Fear not. Billy boy has only started to emabarrass himself and the NYT. After all, he is still breathing.

"embarrassing" inplies that Mr. Kristol has a sense of shame.

Please correct this error in your headline, as no such sense exists within this man

I loved him in City Slickers.

This is such a non-issue.
Kristol, Malkin, Medved, etc.
are all on the same page anyway.
Who cares.

Just remember that these are intellectual
midgets and always have been.
They pretend to have ideas,to be educated
and intellectual but they are all just
parrots.

Whenever you see Billy K., you are seeing
a spoiled child who has never worked
in his life.

The NYT has done to itself what the Republikanzis couldn't - they have made me stop reading their publication. My subscription was canceled the day of Kristol announcement, and their website is blocked at my firewall.

Way to go Times. Jason Blair and Judith miller were not aberrations. Rather, your relationship to the truth is as greasy as Faux News and CNN. And like Faux news and CNN, you are dead to me.

The problem is you shouldn't be reading any of the crap Billy K writes anyway. You know you're getting nothing but jaundiced ads... I won't even dignify what he does as reporting... He writes ads... That what it is. So if he gets his facts wrong or twisted, blame yourself for reading, not the ignoramous who did the writing. D.

An embarrassing error and awkward, cliched prose.

This is the great public intellectual of the right that the NYT has been touting?
