Pentagon And The Media Fall In Love Again

The anguished relationship between the military and the news media appears to be on the mend as battlefield successes from the troop increase in Iraq are reflected in more upbeat news coverage.

Efforts from the new Pentagon leadership, as well as by top commanders at the headquarters in Baghdad, have also eased tensions between reporters and those in uniform. Positive or negative, the troops' view of the news media is set as much by the tone of commanders as by the tenor of individual news clips.

The surge has had virtually nothing to do with the apparent quiet in Baghdad for a couple reasons. One the press is scared to leave the Green Zone, so what little they report is press releases, second, the Sadrists and Sunnis are standing down, rearming, reorganizing to plan the next round (maybe US is leaving maybe not.) Third the violence is still going on but at a slower pace (which is good for the poor victims in Iraq) but it means nothing because the divisions are just as deep and hideous as before. The Iraqi government may still be on vacation. Its hard to tell if they are on vacation or at work because the output is the same, nothing. No progress has been made vis-a-vis the end objective. The killing is down, which is good, but the surge is still a failure. McCain is a delusional old man, grasping at straws for crowing about it.

Give it up, people.

He's not getting impeached because the Dems are trying to look like they are above partisian politics. Could you imagine the conservative backlash of impeachment proceedures? It would revitalize the republican party and undo all of the unravelling that GW has done to thier party over the last few years. The strategically best action now (election time) is to let bygones be bygones and don't give repugs a rallying cause.

...Unless you want huckabee in office, of course...

Are we suppose to be happy over the fact that the military complex has been getting off easy from the MSM because they are cozy with each other? The MSM that is essentially owned by the five largest corporations, which have significant investments in companies like Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, KBR, etc.
In other words, the media is not asking the hard questions because they do not want to know the truth. More importantly, they do not want US to know the truth. Supression of information is one of the top five signs that we are transforming into a fascist state. Manipulation of information or spreading propaganda is another of the top five signs.
When all is said and done, the whole realtionship between these two entities does not pass the smell test. Independent thinking Americans should be afraid. VERY AFRAID.
CALL YOUR CONGRESSMAN AND TELL THEM YOU ARE AGAINST THE NET NEUTRALITY BILL!

And the BushCo Lies continue.

Even with more troops, the casualties in 2007 were the equal to the causalities in 2005.

The media never really digs into the story, they tend to just believe what they are told. They have lost their credibility with many Americans a long time ago. MSM is only interesting in making money, not reporting, that is why they have kowtowed to the Bush Junta, Bush has controlled their access, so like little children they have swallowed the pills Father Bushie has fed them with no critical review. Hope all that changes under a Democratic President in 2009.

A non-story is ever there was one. Funny how the MSM (Huffington Post included) do not report on real news items. All for the purpose of distracting the masses from what is happening to our once great Democracy.
When will the MSM do it's real job of shining the light on what Bushco has done for the last seven years and the irreversible damage done to our government?

Much of the so-called "success" of the surge is based on the under-reported bundles of cash that have been paid to the Sunni militias. These "agreements" require them to stand down for the interim, despite the long-term risk that re-armed Sunnis are thus encouraged to refuse Shia political dominance, which in turn will result in longer-term instability and violence.

Here's another answer. Partition Iraq into a Shia south and Kurd north, each with suitable oil reserves. Transfer the western Sunni territories to Saudi Arabia who has plenty of cash to deal with local Sunni needs.
