Matthews comment about Obama being "young and clean" only show his racist perspective. We all know how sexist he is. Unfortunately, sexism and racism will play a role in this election, but the hurdles to overcoming them as a candidate are very different. A black man must show, as in Biden"s unfortunate characterization, that he is "clean and articulate." And importantly, he must not be threatening. Obama clears that hurdle effortlessly. He is not only "clean," he"s stylish and handsome. He is not simply articulate, he is eloquent. His mild manner and easy smile dispel any notion of threat.
But look at the hurdles for a female candidate. She must show that she is strong, but not so strong as to provoke castration fears. She must show she is tough, but not so tough to be seen as an angry "witch." She must show she has a soft side, but not so much that she appears weak. She must be disciplined, but not appear calculating.
It as if the hurdle for Hillary Clinton is set up in a room with a glass ceiling, and a very low one at that. To clear the hurdle, she to slip through a very narrow gap. It"s so easy for a female candidate to miss that exceedingly thin slot that our culture allows her.

Oh boy - you Chris Matthews haters are really too much. The question was if Rudy could get back the drop in the polls that resulted from a NY Times article about tax money going to driving his mistriss around some years ago, which was front page news. And when the NY Times found out everything was on the up and up, and everything checked out that the Times story was wrong, they printed a retraction on page 37. Chris laid out the FACTS and then asked if Rudy could recoup the drop in the polls because of that erroneous story, and the answer is he can't. So the issue was media fairness and accuracy, a totally legit subject matter that should apply to dems and repubs. How Chris Matthews gets tagged for that is well beyond me.

i did not hear matthews' comment this morning about race being a factor in the primary but i did hear him last night refer to obama as "young and clean." this was probably around 10:30pm-11pm. wasn't there a media storm and accusations of that being a racist comment when joe biden said it months ago? i am sure olberman caught it and was thinking matthews must be losing what little is left of his mind.

last week on "air america" sam seder commented that chris matthews has "become a bore" that olberman basically has to endure when they are put together on air. i couldn't agree more.

and on another note, i find it interesting that when a democrat or democrat-leaning figure is interviewed during the matthews/olberman coverage, they both may be be involved in the interview and questions, with matthews bombarding them with his slanted questions...but when it is a republican only matthews does the questioning (read: agreeing/sucking up).

case in point: tom delay last night (btw, is there a less credible guy to get opinions from). matthews did the entire interview "softball" himself.

Matthews was one of the "rather have a beer with Bush than with that smart, boring Al Gore" guys in 2000.

Does anyone seem to realize how much of a Fascist Rudy is? He wants increased police surveillance and might, increased military presence around the world, enforcement of the Patriot Act, more spying of Americans, Loves Bush and says he wants to advance Bush's policies. If anyone seems to agree with Rudy when he says, "I want to take Bush's strategy to a new level", makes me want to vomit with disgust!

Will someone tell me exactly what Rudy did on 9/11 that makes him a hero of 9/11? I've been waiting all year for the media, who tagged Rudy with this, to explain. I'm still waiting.
I've only seen footage of him talking to the newspersons. Every mayor of every city is on the scene when a disaster occurs. What did he lead?

Chris M. is an arrogant person and a liar. I used to think his bizarre comments were related to his blood glucose level on any given day. He has no idea how out-of-touch with reality he really is. This morning he tried to frame Obama's lost to Clinton as racism! Maybe the polls were just wrong since almost forty percent of the voters were "undecided" just two days before the primary. Now he knows that Obama will win in South Carolina because he is black. What makes him think that he can make a racist, steriotypical statement like that and not be called on it? Chris can't conceive of Black people being capable of voting the issues over race as any other group. It was a derogatory and dismissive statement. He's a fool.

Chris Matthews and Tim Russert really need to be put out to pasture.Their GOP agitprop has gotten stale and transparent.They've been the Rethugs mouth peices for years,and they need to be called out on it.
