Giuliani Op-Ed: I Prepared New York To Handle 9/11

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed today on homeland security, Rudy Giuliani references September 11 nine separate times. In one of those instances, he claims he prepared New York City well to "withstand the 9/11 attack":

One reason New York City was able to withstand the 9/11 attack was that we were prepared to meet 21st-century security threats. ... And while we didn't anticipate the specific scenario of 9/11, the constant practice, and the relentless follow-up from actual emergencies, certainly helped in its aftermath.

It is my contention that the Republican presidential candidates all took a vow that they would strive to make Alan Keyes look sane by comparison. How else can one explain the flight to insanity?

Now I think the President is a moron and believe him incompetent, grossly misinformed, immoral, hypocritical, bombastic and even downright evil but the President's sanity I have rarely questioned. But the Republicans may be served trying to change the Constitution to allow Bush to run for a third term rather than nominating any of these current crop of kooks.

Romney has become a parody. He has been the sole beneficiary of the WGA strike but now that's over, he has become the nightly fodder. Who needs writers when you have Romney?

McCain has often suffered from both a temper and a running of the mouth but his comments recently have been nothing short of insane. 1000 years in Iraq. What is this the Fourth Reich? And then apparently we have elected General Petraeus commander in chief because only he is capable of deciding when to leave Iraq. What is this the Fourth Reich?

Huckabee seems a likable chap but nonetheless delusional. Evolution is a stretch for him to fathom. Paul for all his relative sanity on a host of issues (alone among all the candidates both Republican and Democratic, Paul recognizes the cost of American militarism and the folly of Empire) also can't quite fathom evolution.

Thompson can't decide if he's running for President or just playing the part on TV. Thank god, there won't be re-runs of this show.

But it is Guiliani to whom the keys of the asylum must be awarded. Joe Biden's most astute observation was Guiliani's prose construction of a noun, a verb and 9/11. It's an obsession disorder or perhaps he's a paranoid schizophrenic but I am not kidding his mental health is an issue.

And if my original assertion is true, then yes Alan Keyes looks rather sane when compared to this crop of GOP hopefuls.

Maybe somebody should ask St. Rudy why he wasn't in his command center coordinating rescue efforts that day? (Maybe it's because numbnuts put it in the WTC for his personal convenience, even after it had been bombed in '93...and it was destroyed along with the rest of the WTC).

They didn't anticipate the "specific scenerio". Well, that would be the problem wouldn't it. After the attack a few years earlier on the towers they should have had this exact scenerio in mind. Look at all the airports around New York and we all know that terrorists like to hijack planes and blow things up (and don't mind killing themselves while accomplishing this). So they managed to merge the two. And it is not like the towers or the pentagon are hard to find in the air. Not like there are many buildings that look like those specific targets. So really, as far as I am concerned, Rudy should have been ready for this exact scenerio. Maybe they would have at least evacuated the other tower when the first one got hit. And maybe he would not have had the security offices in the same area. He is not going to get voted in office because of 911 - in fact it will most likely have the opposite effect.

9/11 tourettes again!!! Rudy failed to give the police and firemen working radios and he gave the morterola company a big contract for radios that flat out did not work right. he knew it and let it go as it was less important than his mistress and having fun.
