Golf Channel suspended anchor Kelly Tilghman for two weeks on Wednesday for saying last week that young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley."

Tilghman was laughing during the exchange Friday with analyst Nick Faldo at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, and Woods' agent at IMG said he didn't think there was any ill intent.

From the hysterical comments about this news item it seems that pretty much no one has listened to the entire segment, of which Kelly's "...and lynch him." was about a 1 second interjection. Nick Faldo initiated the thread by opining that the only way the other golfers are going to beat Tiger is to "...gang up on him in a back alley and..." which is where Kelly interjects her comment. So, why isn't' the Golf Channel suspending Nick? He started the thread of violence-as-solution and frankly, I think that's as repugnant as the way Kelly finishes it. Also, after watching the clip, I think it's pretty clear that neither Kelly or Nick were talking about Tiger's ethnicity, but rather about his overwhelming talents and abilities. The subliminal message wasn't that it's OK to hang a black man. No, the subliminal message that they should be apologizing for is that it's OK to violently eliminate your opponent if you can't beat him in competition.

The Golf Channel should fire her. Period.

We are, all, responsible for our words and actions.

Try repeating her hateful comment at your job.

You will not and should not be given a two week suspension.

YOU WILL BE FIRED.

We should not tolerate harmful words which may influence others to believe such hateful irresponsible
comments are okay.

Because it isn't okay. It is deplorable. She and the Golf Channel executives know this and should do the responsible thing through her resignation or her firing.

I saw the clip of that. Please look at the clip and not just the quote, because I think it's completely obvious from the clip that what she said was an accident. It was a matter of making an unfortunate word choice. I think it's a sad day when one *accidental* racist-sounding remark can ruin your career, but at the same time, those who repeatedly, deliberately make sexist remarks on television can get away with it.

Maybe shes a Witch....and you know what we do with Witches....in the mean time I see where 17 troops have been killed in Iraq so far this month...not sure of the color or gender.... just know they are all dead, blown to bits, anybody care about that?

She is paid for using her words and judgment. She's lucky she's just getting a two week suspension. Ben Wright worked as a golf analyst for 23 years when he was fired for making remarks to a Sports Illustrated reporter that were considered sexist and homophobic.

No one condones the remark; it was stupid and tasteless and she apologized immediately. Get over it because the intended target Tiger Woods has. Some of you folks really need to get lives.

You know, I hate censorship. But I am also amazed by the number of people who are paid large sums of money to comment on various subjects on TV, who seem to be incapable of using good judgment. My nine-year-old nephew has more sensitivity and awareness than some of these TV morons. And how quickly the stereotypical phrase springs to their lips! When someone is paid that much to TALK, it's shocking when they come up with something so stupid.

Hypothetical:

If Sandy Kofax was pitching today and dominating hitters, what would have happened to an anchor that said "Young hitters that want to challenge Sandy should take him out back and Gas him"?

This gal should be on the Imus show.

If I'm not mistaken, Tiger is half-black.

Half of him is entitled to be offended.

No one here is.

....young players who wanted to challenge Tiger Woods should "lynch him in a back alley."

What was the point of her comments? She is suspended only for only 2 weeks? I thought it was ESPN that was racist. Hmmmm...may be the network should give her a raise.

NOW CAN WE GET RID OF SHARPTON? Lynching is no where near a racially owned word. What did they do to cattle rustlers in the 1800's? What did the Pinkertons do to the miners who tried to start unions? Fortunately there are people in this country who don't bait so easily. When we all get there, then we will have racial equality. Oh - What should we do to Al Sharpton?
