After his triumph in Iowa and third-place finish in New Hampshire, Mike Huckabee showed up Wednesday night for another Colbert bump.

An earlier bump pushed Huckabee to the front of the Republican presidential pack, the candidate assured TV comic Stephen Colbert.

"The only reason I'm the front-runner now is because of the Colbert bump," a mostly straight-faced Huckabee told the host of "The Colbert Report" on Comedy Central. "If it were not for that I would not be sitting in this chair, I would be probably somewhere serving hamburgers at a drive-in restaurant."

Huck says: "The health care system is really designed to reward you for being unhealthy. If you are a healthy person and work hard to be healthy, there are no benefits."Mike Huckabee."

My comment: yes, there are benefits, Huck --- if you work hard to be healthy, the benefit is being healthy. (Having lost 100 pounds through his own efforts, Huck is the living example of this truth.)

That does not mean you don't need health insurance. I was a healthy man when I received a head injury through an accident. My insurance save me from paying thousands in hospital/doctor bills.

Funniest thing that Huckabee said was before an NRA meeting. He said that during a bow and arrow hunting trip He told the members that he shot an arrow at a deer and an angel guided it straight to the target. He also told them that he believed that there is "hunting" in heaven. I watched the Colbert interview with Huckabee. I always thought that Huckabee was delusional and a religious wacko, I am not sure what Colbert is.

This was one of Colbert's best. If he did this without writers, should stick with his own stuff....or does that violate the unions?

The whole thing was more natural and spontaneous than usual. Sometimes Colbert gets overly complex, although always funny.

And of course I like Huck too. Can anyone I like ever win?

it sucks that the most honest and human candidate, the one with the most integrity, has a political agenda (republican) diametrically opposed to my own politics. and its equally sucky that the candidates more closely representing my political beliefs (democrats) are products of marketing, branding, and artifice.

if it wasnt for the supreme court needed balancing on the left, id vote for Huckabee. as much as i dislike Hillary, at least she will put a good justice on the bench. and thats crucial right now.

You don't have to agree with people's politics in order to find them engaging and likeable. There is an adage that you can't take your work too seriously, but you can take yourself too seriously. I find Huckabee's self-deprecating humor very refreshing in the midst of a programmed presidential election, where everything you say is twisted by both sides to meet idealogical agenda.

We have an interesting race. Obama's call to the power of the people rather than the morass of organized government is a breath of fresh air. Huckabee shows that a serious candidate doesn't have to be a programmed robot. The voters aren't following the pundits and are challenging the candidates.

I don't want eight more years of a politics-as-usual president, and I'm glad that people are finally reacting to the terrible job this current administration has done.

Huckabee was great, self-depracating and funny as was Colbert. Y'all can't see the funny beyond your own hatred. You don't have to agree with his policy ideas to laugh. Get a life haters.

I don't care for Huck's politics, and would vote for a yellow dog before voting for any Republican, but he has a disposition that is likeable and, yes, genuine. I am not talking about GWB genuine. Before you jump to conclusions, I have spent most of my professional career and all of education involved in politics. This guy is the real deal. I am not saying it is a good deal.
When he first appeared on Comedy Central, I realized long before Iowa that he is a force to be reckoned with. I also could not figure why anyone thought the results of the nation"s first caucus was a surprise. Make no mistake, any Republican with guts, willing to go nose to nose with Stewart or Colbert, is dangerous or stupid (stupid can be dangerous also).
These two guys, and perhaps their writers, have single handedly turned American politics and journalism, if you can call it that, on its head. That skit was hilarious on so many levels.

I was astounded and was rolling on the floor laughing. I'm sorry forget politics, Huckabee was screamingly funny on this segment and I was fairly shocked he would go so far out on a limb. Say what you will but he clearly has a wicked sense of humor and I ate this up. And isn't that the real motto of both parties, "Outsourcing Jobs: I'm all for it as long as it isn't mine".

For a Republican to mock something like that was shocking and refreshing.

Also, the US Chamber of Commerce is claiming to attack any candidate who mentions anything, anything at all about middle class economic issues and they all hate Huckabee. I'd say that's a very good sign, especially for a Republican.

If I were a Huckleberry Bibleboy supporter I would be angry as hell. His appearance just proves to me that he is willing to make fun of anything including himself, his religion, his constituents and basically act a fool to get more votes. It is not charming or funny to see anyone act totally stupid and childish just to get votes. Some of the things he said and the way he played along was embarrassing. We already have a clown as president. I think we've had enough of closet-comedians begging for attention. What in the world was he thinking? By the way, Colbert and Stewart were both hilarious last night with their style of coverage of the NH primary.

Huckabee's humor is the main reason he frightens me. People can be so easily drawn in by him. He's disarming and he is funny until you begin to actually look at his record.

Great article here:

Huck writes his own material. The only candidate who does.

"The health care system is really designed to reward you for being unhealthy. If you are a healthy person and work hard to be healthy, there are no benefits."

Excerpts from Tuesdays AR Democrat Gazette
By Seth Blomeley On the eve of his second year as gov. Gov. Mike Beebe said Tuesday that he picked up a few pointers by watching his predecessor, Huckabee. One Huckabee trait Beebe wants to emulate, but he wants to do the opposite regarding another. He said he"s counting on both efforts to pay him dividends in his coming years as governor. Legislators have criticized Huckabee for seeking first to criticize those who differed with him, rather than reaching out to work with them, and Beebe said that"s a practice he intends to avoid. Dave Bisbee of Rogers:. "I can"t recall a time in the last year when the governor has blamed the Legislature for anything," Bisbee said. "The previous governor took credit for anything that was good and blamed the Legislature for anything that was bad." Like Huckabee, Bisbee is a Republican and was Huckabee"s floor leader in the Senate during the 2001 session.Huckabee spokesman Alice Stewart didn"t respond to messages Tuesday seeking a Huckabee response.
Beebe maintains he hasn"t set out to present himself as the opposite of Huckabee. Some differences have emerged, however. But Beebe, who supports Clinton in the Democratic presidential race, said that"s not because "I"m out beating my chest trying to make Huckabee look bad. Beebe has cut down on the use of the state airplane, rarely traveling out of state and believing it should only be used for state business. Huckabee frequently flew out of state, including to the 2004 Republican National Convention, on the state police airplane. Beebe also doesn"t accept major gifts, most recently rejecting transportation and a box seat at the Cotton Bowl, courtesy of AT&T, a state contractor. Huckabee reported thousands of dollars of gifts, including cowboy boots in 2005 valued at$3,695 courtesy of the Republican Party. Cabinet members would donate money to buy Huckabee Christmas presents. "These people work for you," Beebe said. "Agency heads shouldn"t feel like they are obliged to get you gifts." Beebe, said he doesn"t need gifts.
