George Clooney

Deadline Hollywood Daily:

Hollywood's Triple-A list actors have started becoming integrally involved in trying to solve the Writers Guild strike against the Hollywood CEOs. I've just been told that George Clooney today is volunteering to personally set up a so-called "mediation panel" including himself and with plans to ask Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and John Wells (the executive producer of ER and a controversial ex-WGA president) to be part of it, plus 3 or 4 bigwigs who are siding with the producers.

What an impressive collection of pinheads we have here on this post. Judging by the majority of the postings here, I'd guess none of the above work in any industry related to "Hollywood" or broadcasting. The fact is this strike is putting THOUSANDS of work-a-day people out of work exactly as it would if it happened in Pontiac. In fact, one thousand people were warned on Friday of their imminent layoff from Warner Studios. If Clooney thinks he can get some muscle together to bring everybody together to talk, more power to him. If you don't know what you're talkin' about please stowe yer b*llsh*t. Oh, and greetings from Hollywood.

Hmm. It's interesting to me, personally, how the American public sounds very angry at times over this issue of continued writer strikes & Hollywood & rich celebrities. Well, isn't it possible, that the public (eg., the FANS) helped to make things the way they are ~ current status ~ in part by how we wrongly, but continually, worship Hollywood & forget that it's a flawed industry like any other? I mean, it's certainly one thing to appreciate talent & good entertainment. I do, too. But, it's quite another to worship the human beings behind this industry ... or conversely, to loathe them, when they fare well for their work.

They are human beings ~ who acquire skills of acting, directing, writing, etc. for the entertainment industry. But, unfortunately, many fans often perceive these individuals as larger-than-life. They're not. And, actor George Clooney is tring, IMHO, to offer a viable alternative/possible resolution to this current problem. I, too, feel that mediation is the right course now.

Thanks for reading ~

Oh but how the over bloated egos are coming out in force over the writers strike.

...and still, life goes on.

WOW!! Thank God that George is doing something! I might have slit my wrists in the bath tonight if not for this breaking news. Hollywood is a joke!!

If this strike causes the Oscars to be canceled, I say: Great! I hope the actors pushing for resolution before the Academy Awards are not expecting the public to be concerned. All that red carpet preening and the "me so cute" speeches are just cheap fun. They don't matter to anybody outside Hollywood. And, if Julia Roberts gets nominated and wins, I'd just as soon skip HER big-mouthed self-love-fest. She was incredibly rude to the people working on the show. Then, the following year, she climbed Denzel Washington like a tree when his name was announced. She stole part of his moment. It was dumb.

Yeah, I'm pretty tired of celebs and their annual feast of preciousness.

Let's take a break from the Oscars this year. Go, strike!

You have to wonder if an election year is the best time for a strike. The networks will be raking in all that big money for campaign commercials.

The big money candidates are screwing the writers.

lets face it. there nothing fair about corporate business. there just isn't. it's about who can fuck over the biggest chunk of plebes. this could be settled very quickly. have a large panel decide what a fair percentage is. get a pie chart out and retool it for everyone concerned not just the writers. the top people of the food chain have been eating their own since the beginning. it's time for the plebes to stand up and say fuck you. infact all of the people in the usa should stand up and have a general strike.

I guess Mr. Clooney didn't get the memo. As long as the WGA keeps granting exemptions, why should the producers ever take them seriously?

Face facts. The WGA is the lowest on the Hollywood food chain. The DGA has more money, clout and has ben preparing for months now to go for a better contract. Also, do you really think that Clooney and the other top SAG members would do anything to break SAG unity in the event of a strike? Not a chance.

Looks like another pr move to me.

No man, you got it all wrong. What you need to do is grow a beard to show your support. (Or, that you're just lazy and don't want to shave). Maybe you could shave it in front of the two sides to get them to settle. Oh, I get it, you're NOT doing this for publicity...

I hope the mediation panel works and they can settle. It's got to be tough on the writers at this point.

"So called" mediation panel?

Why is it in quotes? They have yet to earn those quote marks. Let's give them a chance first and then see if they are "So called".

Anything to end this continuing loss for all concerned. I really feel for the little guys/gals who will lose jobs and tips out of no big award shows and the parties after. The economy is losing bad in the area.
