ABC Embarrassed After Katie Holmes' "Softball" GMA Interview

ABC suits were red-faced yesterday after Katie Holmes was interviewed on "Good Morning America" without being asked about claims that her baby, Suri, was created with the sperm of Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, not hubby Tom Cruise. [Photo on facing page.]

"GMA" host Diane Sawyer asked Holmes only inoffensive, softball questions about her hair, her clothes, her baby and her new movie, "Mad Money."

Incredibly, she never even brought up Andrew Morton's controversial new book, "Tom Cruise: An Unauthorized Biography" - which has set off a worldwide buzz and has the superstar going ballistic and threatening a massive lawsuit.

i don't care about katie holmes or tom cruise. sawyer is famous for her softball & irrelevant interviews. as an interviewer she stinks, but thats only my opiinion, what do i know.

second, since when does ABC ask hard hitting questions?

The big 3 networks and the faux network are nothing but infotainment, which, when you get right down to it, is nothing more than revamped 3am infomercials.

I don't understand the notion of there being a time issue. Does GMA ever not have a time issue? Is Diane Sawyer unaware of such time issues? Is the producer ever not involved in asking the interviewer to move it along rather than lobbing softballs?

The damage control is a simple white wash. GMA is scared of Tom Cruise or someone else. Plain and simple. GMA stinks of fear at this point.

Katie Holmes was handled with "kid gloves". There is a controversial biography out about her husband which affects both herself and her child. I expected Sawyer to ask questions about the book. Like that disappearing scientology promotional video of Cruise, it seems that Sawyer's ability to interview vanished. It's not vulgar to ask questions about something that is being speculated on. Holmes could have addressed the issues and perhaps put them to rest: at least she could stand up and be counted. Morton did not allege that Suri was Hubbard's offspring. He wrote that people from Sea Org believed in it. He's written about what other scientologists believe. It seems as though everyone in media and government fears being sued by this organization. I guess their track record for litigation speaks for itself. Anyhow, I'm disappointed in Sawyer. As for Holmes, she came off as the fluff she's portrayed as being by general media: hair and make up are more important than standing up against something she believes hurts her family. Hmm...maybe Morton's biography isn't that far fetched...
