Andrew Morton Explains Suri/L. Ron Hubbard Paternity Claim

Andrew Morton's unauthorized book on Tom Cruise hits stores Tuesday, and he had a lengthy sit-down with the "Today" show, spread across three hours and different hosts. In the 7:30 half hour he talked to Meredith Vieira and addressed the tabloid speculation about his book's reporting of Suri's paternity. He writes that some devout Scientology followers believe Suri is the result of Katie Holmes being impregnated with the late L. Ron Hubbard's sperm. He also mentions how the claim has been discussed widely in the media, including "on your sister station MSNBC."

I used to be a big Tom Cruise fan, I still think that he's one of a kind, and has brought a lot of entertainment to many for years. I cannot think of another actor quite like him. Having said that, his recent movie roles don't seem strong enough to cover that huge ego. I guess if you think you're able to save the human race,your ego gets kind of out of bounds. Suri is adorable,and they seem like loving, devoted parents. Katie is becoming a worse clothes horse than her friend Posh,she sure has changed. Bottom line, like so many stars, I don't think talent and brains necessarily come together in one package.

A billion people say they believe that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin and came back from the dead. Hindus believe you may be reborn as a cockroach or a Siamese cat. Muslims believe some other objectively crazy stuff. It's all matter of faith and whatever gets you through the night. If the Scientologists have given up on threatening their critics and oppressing their members, I don't care what their articles of faith are, even if the late L. Ron Hubbard was a paranoid and crack-brained son of a bitch.

As far as Suri's parentage goes, the only father she'll actually know will be Tom C., and he looks like he's devoted to the job.

Hubbard got "religion" status so that he would not have to pay taxes.
