Your points are moot when safety violations are mostly giggled at on his projects and people are injured/die as a result. The communities are saddled with a lower quality of life due to his "beautiful" (eye of the beholder, I personally find them ostentatious and tacky) massive structures, none of which are resource-conservative.

The changes made at the DOB address none of the core issues of over-development and engineers/architects "promising everything was done well and up to code". The wolves are in charge of the henhouse. I wonder how much of our infrastructure overburden and collapse can be partly attributed to these monstrosities going up that provide "jobs" (temporary-limited) and "investment in the city" (they barely pay taxes to truly "invest" in the city. They write off everything from lunch to "business trips" and take every possible corporate tax break available. I dare Trump to release his tax payments on these projects for the last 5 years.)

Not all of us are sheeple. We see what's happening.

In New York City, there are new rules being implemented as we speak that the construction superintendents must have training, be licensed and will be held responsible for anything that happens on their job site. I have friends in just such a program. Since the power for the job to proceed on a daily basis rests with the job super, whenever any task, or the condition of any piece of equipment, has the potential for danger, measures will be taken to assure said task is performed safely and according to good standards and practices.

As relates to crane operation, for example, there are plenty of instances where the operator is blind to the location of the load and he must totally rely on the spotter or the person responsible for instructing his crane movements. If that person is not properly trained, they may have given the operator an instruction to swing or raise or lower that was bad information, leading to damaging the formwork and the cascading events that followed.

Apropos of nothing, while I really can't stand Mr. Trump on a personality level, the fact is, he builds things. He crates structures. Unlike so many super-wealthy people who only make money by manipulating money, at least Trump has the vision and the savvy to produce something lasting with his energies. While one might argue that New York doesn't need yet another luxury high-rise, the fact is Trumps works tend to serve a purpose, are generally beautiful, provide living space and create jobs.

That's more than can be said about most people in his class.

This happened because:

1. The Department of Buildings approves too many permits and do not have enough appropriate inspectors to keep the development process safe and honest. They allow engineers to sign off for themselves, and pretty much are beholden to the developers.

2.The Stop Work Order should have been issued after the 1st violation for failure to maintain a safety log and dangerous debris. This guy would be alive right now if they did, and so would the other construction workers who have died around NYC if this policy were followed as per code.

Greed. Fear of Trumps minions if they issued a stop work. Trump & his "partners" are asses enabled by the DOB and encouraged by the city.

Cranes fail for two or three reasons. They're ill-maintained, or the operator didn't obey the limitations on weights and angles.

Trump is representative of the arrogant oligarch born to a privileged womb who believes that anyone could raise himself to his economic wealth if they learn to abuse all around him, including his wives and children.

Actually Trump seems like a ok guy, after you listen to him for a while. Accidents happen and it sounds like a subbed equipment failure.

It is news only because it happened at a construction site for Trump.
