At the Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday, Senator Hillary Clinton said she took BET founder Robert Johnson at his word when he said he wasn't bringing up the specter of Barack Obama's youthful drug use while on the campaign trail. But she also said Johnson's words were "out of bounds," raising questions as to exactly where she stood on the controversial comments of her prominent supporter.

Asked why she had not distanced herself from Johnson following a reference he seemingly made to Obama's use of cocaine as a teenager -- Johnson claimed later he was referring to the senator's work as a community organizer -- Clinton came to her supporter's defense.

"Bob has put out a statement saying what he was trying to say and what he thought he had said," said the New Yorker. "We accept him on his word on that."

Clinton then tried to position herself above the argument's fray, saying it was "too important for us to get diverted" by the issue and insisting that voters were not concerned with "somebody they never heard of."

But when moderator Tim Russert pressed her over whether Johnson's comments were out of bounds, Clinton replied, "Yes, they were. And he has said that."

Johnson has not publicly apologized for his remark. In an interview with the Washington Post, he actually defended his comments. And in the statement released immediately after the initial fracas, he declared:

"My comments today were referring to Barack Obama's time spent as a community organizer and nothing else. Any other suggestion is simply irresponsible and incorrect."

I see from some of the Posts people do not realized Obama has more senate experience than Hillary. Obama was in the State Senate from 1997-2004 before being elected in 2004 to the US Senate in a landslide(70% of the vote).

Blacks learning
Hillary Was AGAINST the Civil Rights Act of 1964
Feel Deceived !

A March 12, 2007 article written by acclaimed Washington columnist Robert Novak sheds a very revealing light on the true sentiment of Hillary Clinton during the peak of the Civil Rights Movement.

In an attempt to attract black support Hillary Clinton regularly shares her 'civil rights experience' during every speech given to blacks audiences. Novak writes of one such speech at Selma's First Baptist Church on the 42nd anniversary of the "bloody Sunday" freedom march there, where Sen. Clinton declared: "As a young woman, I had the great privilege of hearing Dr. King speak in Chicago. The year was 1963. My youth minister from our church took a few of us down on a cold January night to hear [King]. . . . And he called on us, he challenged us that evening to stay awake during the great revolution that the civil rights pioneers were waging on behalf of a more perfect union." But Novak's article states that there's a big problem with her statement.

The fact is, in 1963, the same period of time she speeks of at all black church appearances, not only was Hillary Clinton a republican, but she was also a staunch supporter of republican Senator Barry Goldwater, well known as a segregationist and adamently against the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which is why he lost in his presidential bid to Lyndon B. Johnson. Novak writes "...how then could she be a 'Goldwater Girl' in the next year's presidential election?" He continues, "...she described herself in her memoirs as 'an active Young Republican' and 'a Goldwater girl, right down to my cowgirl outfit.' (Hillary worked on Goldwater's presidential campaign)

Novak adds, "As a politically attuned honor student, she must have known that Goldwater was one of only six Republican senators who joined Southern Democratic segregationists opposing the historic voting rights act of 1964 inspired by King. Hillary later headed Young Republicans in college.

It seems like one Clinton spokesperson weekly finds a way to bring up Obama's drug use as a young adult. Frankly, as someone who is Bill's age and did inhale, I like Obama's honesty far more than Bill's "I tried it but I didn't inhale" defense. I voted for Bill twice and think he was a very good president overall, but Obama's got my $ and my vote this time around.

READERS, PLEASE NOTE: Obama has an EXCELLENT background to be president, and the false notion that he's "inexperienced" has been carefully perpetuated by Clinton operatives for the sole purpose of gaining Hillary an edge. Obama graduated in the top 1% of his class at Harvard Law School with a major in Constitutional Law. (Hillary graduated in the middle of her class). And, he was elected President of the Harvard Law Review - a great honor. He worked as Editor of a prestigous publication on International Trade and Finance in New York City. He could have gotten a very high paying position after Harvard, but opted to work as a Political Organizer in the poor neighborhoods of Chicago instead. (Hillary FLUNKED her law exam TWICE in Washington DC, then moved to Arkansas and passed it there - Whoopee-Do !!) Then Obama worked for years as a Civil Rights Attorney in Chicago (Hillary spent her career in Arkansas working as a patent lawyer). ARE YOU BEGINNING TO SEE THE DIFFERENCES HERE FOLKS??? Obama also worked as a professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Chicago. Then Obama served as State Senator of Illinois for 8 years, and was then elected by a landslide as U.S. Senator, a position he has held for the last 3 years. OBAMA HAS HELD ELECTED PUBLIC OFFICE FOR 11 YEARS. Hillary has held elected public office for 6 years. Finally, Barack Obama is a SELF MADE MAN. The accomplishments I've cited are his own. He hasn't coasted along on the coatails of his spouse. GET IT PEOPLE ????

OK, and no one took Barack to task for putting his wife up to perpetuating the distortions of Bill Clinton's comments on Barack's fallacious assertions of his war position. Big frickin' whoop. Maybe Barack and Hillary are just trying to put the whole stupid thing to rest. Good on 'em. Take note.

Mr. Johnson remind me of the seventy. The black man dress up with tight pants and known as a drug dealer (pusher man). Shaking his hips like a prostitute( Huggy Bear). Yeah just for Hillary Clinton. He is a mistral man. I never thought I would see a rich black man make a fool out of himself. All for the sake to kiss someone behind. It is a shame. I am ashamed as a person of color.

America we do not want the 70's, the 80's or the 90's again.

Let us all move on and turn the page

Hillary says that she was for Robert Johnson, then she was against him, then she was for him - all in the space of five minutes.

She was for drivers licenses for illegals and then she was against them in the space of two minutes.

Anybody see a pattern here?

I thought that Hillary and Obama asked for a truce on the issue of race. Why do many of the Obama supporters (including Arianna) continue to jab at the issue? Is it because it distracts from the substantive issues of the day for which Obama has no credible experience? To paraphrase is own words in last night's debate, he doesn't know much about management or keeping track of things like the bureaucracy. Well, if America needed an oracle at this critical time, he would be a good choice. Instead, we need a hands-on, experienced person who can guide the nation and produce, rather than talk about, change. Hillary 2008.

I blame Russert and Williams for not nailing her down more about Johnson.

Everyone is afraid of "The Queen" and don't want to be accused of bullying the poor, defenseless, crying woman.

Thanks to NY State attorney General Andrew Cuomo, "shuckin n' jivin" remains no longer an obscure, and kind of esoteric phrase in Ebonic slang. Who'd be offended by that? Not us black folk, or at least we shouldn't be. Myself, I was amused. At least the AG knew how to place the phrase "shuck and jive" in its proper grammatical context (who's he been hangin out wit??) As for its meaning for the less culturally informed, the verb phrase "shuck and jive" can replace or is synonymous with the common slang verb "mess around", or to clown around, to be engaged in less than productive or time-wasting activity. Now for a classic example of this term in action, see video replays of former BET owner Bob Johnson this past weekend in South Carolina, chumping (I mean stumping) for votes for Hillary Clinton. and as an added bonus, you get a double dip of black oral tradition, as he exhibits the "toast" style of public oratory. What's toast? Well, I won't say, let's just say it's a black thing; and in this day and time, in that setting, Bob Johnson, that truly is offensive.

The retraction or whatever it is sounds like Bill "never apologize without attacking" Clinton.

Hillary continues to lie, have it both ways. Media is as it makes for fake fights. Headlines, 24 hour yap crap.

I can not understand any democrat that has watched her behavior and not see everything they have bitched about with Bush and Rove. Same thing.

The debates show her duplicity. Follow what she says. 'I take him at his word'. The entire universe KNOWS he lied. I take people's lies? Great. We need more of that. She brings nothing new to the table. But she does bring more dirty politics. She is Bush.

Hillary followers must be embarrassed and dismayed by the campaign she is waging. They must know that this kind of campaign will not allow her to lead. She will have won by dividing the Party and reinforcing the belief that the only way you can win is to be a dirty liar.

Now she is blocking people's right to caucus in Las Vegas because she KNOWS they will vote Obama. Disgusting, but it is what it is and we need to deal with it.

Putting her dirty tricks up against Republican dirty tricks will not work. She will loose. They will not buy into this Poor Me Don't Gang Up on Me I am a Woman clap trap. They also will not see her and Bill's uglier past as out of bounds like Obama does. They will rejoice.

Republicans and the MSM are salivating for a Hillary/McCain race. Its obvious. And who is working on behalf of McCain? Rove. They can't wait for the sick headlines, they can't wait to divert our attention, they can't wait for the sickness and dirt. Is this what we want or are we ready to move on and up?

The only reason to support Hillary is the belief that Obama can not go all the way.

He will go all the way. He will build the bridge to the 21st century. He needs support. He needs people to have hope and faith, with that we can get Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton behind us.

Please think.

Black Entertainment Television is as meaningful to African Americans as Amos and Andy. In fact, it promotes more negative African American stereotypes that Amos and Andy ever did. Anyone who would align herself with a pimp like Robert Johnson does not deserve my precious vote!

Saying you accept someone at their word is not the same as defending what they said. It's believing they are telling the truth.
You can accept someone at their word without supporting what they said.
I would think someone who considers themselves a writer would understand that?
