Senior British police officials are talking to the FBI about an international database to hunt for major criminals and terrorists.

The US-initiated programme, "Server in the Sky", would take cooperation between the police forces way beyond the current faxing of fingerprints across the Atlantic. Allies in the "war against terror" - the US, UK, Australia, Canada and New Zealand - have formed a working group, the International Information Consortium, to plan their strategy.

This is scary. We need something other than business as usual. More than ever we need Kucinich.

Biometric information should be prepared and protected, such that the information in the database can be prevented from being of value to anyone other than the owner of the eyes, hands or fingers.

I will fight long and hard to make certain that my parts are more valuable to society while still connected to me than they would be if cut off for temporary use by someone else.

After I am gone due to vegetative brain trauma or whatever, the parts are available to anyone who can use them to live well.

Im amazed at the information stored on databases out there. Just this past weekend I was channel surfing and watched part of a murder case on court tv , or whatever they are calling themselves now. They were pulling up minute by minute internet searches made by this guy all the way back to 1998! And I mean minute by minute. From 11;53 pm to 11:58pm, and 11:59pm to 12:35am , with links, pages, typed yahoo searches and more. These were made from his home computer too. I was shocked! They can recall everything. Nothing you say, type, or even look at is private anymore, nothing.

Actually, this sounds like a heck of more productive way to spend tax dollars than fighting wars and not a bad idea at all. The stick in the mud however, isn't likely to be UK or its Commonwealth partners. The US has nothing comparable to IDENT1 and I expect that Americans are likely to find numerous valid objections to such a program. As far as I know, the old NCIC system hasn't been upgraded to deal with biometric data beyond fingerprints and the odd DNA test result. Retinal and iris scans in particular have virtually no chance of being implemented in this country on a mass scale owing to the extreme distrust large segments of the population feel towards their government.

Before I'd support collection of biometric data as part of say a national identity card program, I'd want to see the Department of Homeland Security eliminated, repeal of the Patriot and Military Commissions acts a first step, and a repudiation of all Executive Orders that empower FEMA to establish an unelected government if and when the president declares Marshall law. Then, I would need to see much greater governmental transparency and an end to obsessive secrecy, along with a serious effort to reign what are out of control spying agencies. In short, there is no chance I'd support our government's collection of any more data than they already have, which is already way too much.

If you haven't seen the movie "Zeitgeist" yet, now's the time, (very long, very deep, but very, VERY, worth it)

This site marks the three parts, part three having the stuff about "national id" cards and RFD chips implanted in passports:
