¡Ay Caramba! Colbert Interviews Lou Dobbs As Spanish Self — Con Cerca!

Gimmicks are doing a good job of replacing writers on The Colbert Report, if last night's interview with Lou Dobbs is any indication. Colbert turned the interview on its head with a hilarious conceit of interviewing Dobbs as his Spanish-language counterpart, "Esteban Colberto." Did hilarity ensue? Oh yes — including an in-studio barbed-wire fence, which Dobbs viewed with approval: "It's very impressive, and better than some of the fence along our border now!" Dobbs seemed to be taking it all in stride and enjoying himself, which — update — makes much more sense now that I know Colbert & Co. had dubbed in the answers from Dobbs' Jan 2007 interview. (I admit to having been fooled). Ah well, that's two plugs for Dobbs' book, The War On The Middle Class — he shouldn't be too fussed about it. Though it certainly explains why Dobbs' Spanish was so good. Either way, dancing girls! Clip and gratuitous screengrabs below, courtesy of Comedy Central. We think Colbert rocks a purple blazer almost as well as Cindy McCain. High praise, that. This post has (obviously) been updated...not unlike the Lou Dobbs interview from Jan. 2007. In any case, watch and enjoy the video below. P.S. "Con Cerca" means "with fence," we hope.

Funny, but you don't need Colbert or Dobbs for funny politics. Immigration is an issue here in Arizona. If I may suggest a couple of links. Be forewarned, this is from a legitimate 30-year-old weekly paper, but it's pretty raw:

Second suggestion is:

http://www.projectwhitehouse08.com

Which Republican candidate likens himself to a racist former governor of Arizona? Which candidate was quoted in a YouTube ad suggesting a vote for Romney was as good as a vote for Hitler? Which candidate is actually running on the slogan "Don"t Trust Whitey!" Which candidate called Hillary a lesbian, on camera!!

How does this tie into immigration? All the subjects are anti-immigration zealots! Are you on their side?

Two things. First, on a scale of ten I'll say two for trying for something "original." But you didn't do it.

Second, why put a notorious power-hungry racist like Dobbs on the air? So what if it's a comedy show? Have SOME standards!

Esteban ALWAYS makes me laugh!

I sincerely hope that the non-meta Stephen has as much fun and enjoyment from what he does, as the rest of us.

Gracias, Colberto!

We are blessed to have Colbert back - writers or not - his dispute with Conan marks his intellect and his humor.

Colbert has entered the Pantheon where beloved specialized performers such as Johnny Carson, Ernie Kovacs, Soupy Sales, Steve Allen, and even Peewee Herman reside.

Dobbs, on the other hand, is a sophist populist tool of big broadcasting clinically designed to rouse the rabble into buying more of the shit they sell.

Never the twain shall meet.

By the way,Telemudo and Univision mostly feature Cuban and Puerto Rican talent on most of their shows, even though you will find Mexicans,Venezuelans,Colombians,Argentinians ect...,Esteban Colberto looks more like some Cuban dude
