Campaign AdWatch: What Matters To Rudy

In Rudy Giuliani's new campaign spot, the candidate wants voters to know that "It Matters." It matters that he fought corruption, fixed broken government, opposed crime. Oh, and you know what else matters? 9/11, 24-7, 365, of course! Of that date, the narrator intones, "And when the world wavered, and history hesitated...he never did." I don't remember the world doing a lot of "wavering," and the anthropomorphic representation of "history" could not be reached for comment on its "hesitation," but one thing's for sure: Rudy didn't waver or hesitate to try to cancel the law and call off the upcoming mayoral election in New York City so that he could remain Mayor of New York City!

Should that matter to anyone? Should skipping out on the Iraq Study Group matter? Should recommending the mobbed-up Bernard Kerik for the top job at the Department of Homeland Security matter? What about Thomas Ravenel? Or Alan Placa? His petty jealousies? Taxi terrorists? Any of that "matter?" I guess not!
