John Edwards On Letterman
Former Senator John Edwards appeared on The Late Show, with David Letterman, last night, one day after the very heated Democratic debate in South Carolina. Letterman mentioned that the campaign had been going on for a long time, and asked Edwards if he was fatigued from it, and if such a lengthy campaign affected how the candidates all got along. Edwards stalled for a moment, and then made a joke about how we "can't stand each other."

Had it ended right there, the funny moment would simply have been one more in a long, grueling campaign. However, after smiling at his joke while the audience laughed, Edwards then gave an awkward shrug, as if to say there was nothing he could do about it. Edwards goes on to call Senators Obama and Clinton "good people," but the gesture sharpened what until then had been a harmless, late night quip.

Watch the video from The Late Show, with David Letterman, below, and tell HuffPost whether or not you think Edwards' joke had some real bite behind it.

Its a true shame the media has put him on the back burner because all you hear is Obama, Clinton. He is truly the only one that is electable in a general election and the Repugs fear him most of the three candidates, unfortunately it doesn't look like he will make it and we will have to put up with these idiots for 4 more years.

I kept trying to think who it was that Edwards reminded me of in this clip, and then it hit me: Tom Cruise! Does anyone else see it?

How silly!
What a ridiculous commentary.
John Edwards didn't hesitate at all, he laughed. He then made his comment obviously tongue in cheek and made a little shrug, sort of "what kind of serious response did you expect to an inane question like that" but continued laughing to show good humour.
What next from media?
John Edwards is so obviously the articulate, issue oriented breath of fresh air that the United States needs, in their Chief Executive Officer, to redeem their integrity at home and abroad. He is that passionate crusader that articulates real commitment to real people and has the energy and charisma to back it up.
Is the media going to start rersponsible coverage of his campaign, or totally lose this real opportunity for the people of America to make an informed and intelligent choice in their next President?
John Edwards all the way - I hope his supporters stand firm - he is - and deserves to have support grow and grow.

As yet, John Edwards has not rolled up his sleeves enough to expose what may be the sharpest elbows, directed by arguably the sharpest mind among the Democratic candidates.I think the barb of his Letterman "joke" is the knowledge that as Clinton and Obama tear each other down he is by default rising above. Edwards is a powerhouse litigator. If anyone believes this is all he has, hold on.

Everyday I get up and go to Huffpo and support Edwards. I hope he doesn't quit. The other two are acting like babies--ooo, Bill Clinton is mean, oooo-Obama was horrible...grow up! I am a Democrat and will vote for the nominee. Period. But I didn't like how Obama said maybe his supporters would not support Hillary if she is nominated. Sounded like a dog in the manger. Bill could butt out, though--and lose that shiny orange tie!

I wish he hadn't done it.
This perception of fighting turns EVERYBODY off.
Don't put more fuel in the fire, please! We need to WIN in November. It's NOT a done deal until after the inauguration.

A new poll is showing a sharp and dramatic uptick in support for John Edwards in South Carolina.

Pollster John Zogby: "The Democratic race in South Carolina is reminding me now of the beginning of the old Buffalo Springfield song: "There’s something happening here/What it is ain’t exactly clear."

The combative South Carolina debate and the post debate skirmishes seem to have dramatically shifted the mood of South Carolina's electorate. Edwards appears to be the clear beneficiary.

Edwards has been on the forefront on the issue of poverty in America. The current mortgage crisis has it's roots in the predatory lending practices and naked greed in many of the nation's poorest communities. The plight of the poor is our plight, homeless veterans sleeping under bridges after doing all that was asked of them, even risking their lives is our shame
.
Please phone bank for John Edwards in South Carolina.

What we know about Republicans is they do not vote "FOR" issues or leaders, they won't "AGAINST" whatever they are told to fear at the moment. With this insight, Dems need to vote strategically. All of the Republican candidates have major flaws, including and especially McCain. None of them appeal to all the factions of the conservative voter. McCain has problems with the neocons who want the US to be Jack Bauer in 24 and torture, he has problems with the bigots- amnesty for illegal immigrants, anyone? And Wall Street? He is against Bush's tax breaks to the wealthiest Americans.

So, in order for him (or any Republican) to win, the Dems need to have a candidate they can promote as something to fear far worse than the differences they have with the Republican nominee.

Unfortunately Hillary and Obama can deliver the red meat they need to instill enough fear into republicans to drive them to the polls. Whether it be Clinton hating, fear of women in control, fear of a black man in control, fear of a (wink wink) possible muslim in control, Bill Clinton's penis, etc, etc.

John Edwards is the only candidate that will not only adhere to the Dem principles, but most importantly, the Republicans are not going to be fearful enough of a white southern man (albiet with great hair and a big house) to vote for a Republican they can't fully get behind.

Hillary and Obama will still be in the Senate and still have fabulous futures ahead in the party (if their bickering doesn't completely destroy them and us). Vote strategically. Edwards is our only hope and the GOP's worst nightmare. It's about time we stop shooting ourselves in the foot and feeding the monster.

Go Edwards Go!

First of all I am an Edwards supporter, but I realize there is but a slim chance that John can get the Democratic nomination.

Although I don't want to vote for Obama or Clinton I will hold my nose and vote for whoever gets the nomination. I believe that John McLame will be the RepubliCON nominee, and unless all the Democrats and Independents pull together in a united effort we are going to wind up with 4 more years of exactly what we have had for the past 8 years, and maybe even worse should McLame choose LIEberman as his running mate.

If McLame is elected our only hope is to get a veto proof majority of Democrats in Congress which is not likely to happen.

Wake up America, vote Democratic in '08!

The American people need to ask them selves a question:

Why is it that the republicans have an open field and each is given the same amount of time in the media, while the democrats have had their choices narrowed down by the media and only get to see 2 candidates on the air?

John Edwards is a threat to the status quo. John Edwards is a threat to the corporate money machine that runs this nation. The media has blacked out Edwards and refuses to acknowledge him. The media has turned the Democrat race into the Hill and O show. They have refocused the issue to race and gender and away from real issues. Edwards tried to get Hill and O back on track in the debate, but the machine has taken over. From now on out we will not hear about issues we will hear about race and gender.

My only hope is that people will open their eyes before it is to late. Edwards is the only candidate that will work to bring change. Obama talks the talk but has done very little walking. Hillary has already sold her soul and has not been afraid to say so.

One post stated that Democrats will stay home in droves if Hillary is the nominee. I'm very diappointed in her and Bill and their shoddy behavior in recent weeks. But, if she is the nominee I WILL vote for her and I do believe she is up to the task of cleaning up at least some of the messes that need to be tended to. And I have to hand it to her...she doesn't back down from a fight, or stutter for that matter and can wipe up the floor with any of her republican rivals.
Bill may be playing 'attack dog' for her...but clearly she doesn't need him for that. She plays the role of attack dog just fine, thank you very much!
Ouch! My leg! Hillary! Off!!!
