Election Central:

A very special event happened for the Fred Thompson campaign on Tuesday -- besides his official withdrawal from the race, of course. It turns out that after he withdrew via a press release that afternoon, he effectively won something that same night.

National Review reports that the winner of the Louisiana caucuses was an uncommitted slate running under the title of "Pro-Life, Pro-Family," followed by John McCain, Ron Paul and Mitt Romney. In fact, the organizers of that "Pro-Life, Pro-Family" slate were almost all Thompson supporters who decided to take that name a few weeks ago, when it became a distinct possibility that he would drop out before the caucuses -- which he did that very afternoon.

Fred comes across much better when he has someone telling him what to say.

Gee, they probably like Fred out on the bayous, and in "them hills". People that live near geographical barriers seem to like a candidate that thumps a good bible on selected passages and yields self serving interpretations. He has a folksy type appeal, like Huck, except Fred's wife is hot. Lucky for him and for us, now he's free to enjoy her and his life. Fred's role in Watergate was that of a Nixon crony and an enemy of the American people. Good riddance!

It's something akin to voting for a dead guy because you don't like any of the living candidates.

Can't blame 'em.

the final results are not in for LA. pooled delegates under "undetermined" were conducted to offset PAUL's landslide showing of caucus goers.

keep abreast of this story...it is not over.

FThompson's problem wasn't getting Southern votes, although he wasn't able to corner the Revival Tent Republican vote in SCarolina. Fred!'s problem was any area outside of Dixie. Fred! was a regional candidate who was just another snake handler in a good suit. A Southern Fried Social Conservative with zero appeal except to the extreme far right and a few past their prime windbags on talkradio.

Well done. So emblematic of republicans.
