Botox and a similar injection should come with strong warnings following reports of 16 deaths and other serious problems after the botulinum toxin spread inside the body, a U.S. consumer group said on Thursday.

Public Citizen asked U.S. authorities to require the strongest possible warning, highlighted in a "black box," on Allergan Inc's Botox and Solstice Neuroscience Inc's Myobloc.

Jeez, people! Not one of these cases involved the use of Botox in the face or for cosmetic purposes. You have to read the news more carefully. Every one of them was for "medical purposes". Here's a link that explains it better:

If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin".

(And injecting it "under" the skin is twice as dumb).

Who ever could have foretold that there might be problems if one injects botulinum toxin (which can paralyze muscles) into sensitive areas of the face...

I wish Botox was only used for medical purposes ... and not for cosmetic reasons. I say this, because the reality that older women today apparently feel tremendous pressure to look younger than they truly are (instead of simply aging gracefully & naturally, by living as healthy a lifestyle as possible...) is as sad to me as the accidental deaths resulting from use of a toxin. Who cares if someone has a few wrinkles around their eyes, or at the corners of their mouths, or lining their foreheads? I do! And if we're lucky enough to live that long ... we will have many more wrinkles to our credit.
