Jon Stewart: "Oh, Bill Kristol, Are You Ever Right?"

This segment may not have been about new super-qualified NYT columnist Bill Kristol, but how can we resist a Bill Kristol hed? It's relevant insofar as it relates to the news that Fred Thompson dropped out of the GOP race — an inauspicious end to what had been heralded as a great Republican hope. Stewart calls back to that time with a parade of talking heads opining on Thompson's awesome powers of Presidentia (is that a word? It is now). One astute commentator called him Reaganesque, which must've mean that both Hillary and Obama are fans! (Becuase they love Reagan. Just ask them! About what the other one said.) Said Kristol, back in the day: "Fred Thompson knows what he's doing, and he will be formidable." God, those powers of insight. He should really be put to work on some editorial page somewhere. Watch:

The segment also favored Fox Business Channel by including them as one of "the two major financial networks" (ratings be damned!) wherein Stewart described their programming as "Hot Ladies Talk Money With Bald Dudes." Stewart's guest for the program was PJ O'Rourke, discussing his new book about Adam Smith. There's an "invisible hand" joke in here somewhere — oh, to be able to bring that back around to Bill Kristol, but honestly, his stuff doesn't even read like he bothers to type with one.

Same could be said when anyone drops out of the race. Like Kucinich. Bring up some video of a commentator giving him props.

Yawn!

Should have held out for the writer's strike to end, Jon.

I suggest that we go back through all the old columns of the whore/pundits who thought Powell'.s speech to the UN was "compelling" or who bought the WMD's in Iraq or who bought that fairy tale about Saddam's ties to Al Qaida.

And fire every sorry assed one of those fools.

In what other professions could you be socontinually wrong and still keep your job?

Fire every anchorman/reporter who did not report what Scott Ritter was saying at the time. Or who reported "all the intelligence agencies agreeed" to this day.

And all the fools who are now reporting that Iran is helping the Taliban and Al Qaida.

Give me a break.

Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld et al are war criminals and guilty of Crimes against Humanity.

And the media/pundits were complicit every step of the way.

If you judge the success of a pundit by the impact, good and bad, on the listening public these posts would suggest that he was a good catch for the Times. He generates passion [hate] and considerable parsing of his opinions. Apparently many people listen to him [watch his lips move just to fume] and read his material. If you are a real political junkie you love the extremists, left and right. If you are only interested in those who agree with you then you are probably frustrated by both parties.

This explains the Iraq war and the Bush lies.

Streaming direct through Comedy Central SUCKS. The bit is constantly interrupted for buffering purposes.

It just sucks.

But the bit was great (eventually) - especially the Bloody Kristol bit.

It's not Kristol's job to be correct (there must be a "Kristol Ball" joke in there SOMEwhere), it's his job to tell the right wing what they want to hear, and then when he's (inevitably) wrong, conveniently forget his prior predictions, and move on to the next right-wing hope.

After all, the Truth is so... Depressing!

Has anyone ever noticed that most media companies that originate from Israel start with the name Fox? I even saw a picture of a Jewish family the other day and the kids were both wearing shirts with the Fox logo on the front. What's up with that?

Can you imagine the looks of disgust that Kristol must contort his face into when he passes homeless vets on the street. He probably does not even give them a glance and calls them bums under his breath. Oh so sad, to occasionally be reminded of the results of your continuous warmongering.

How in hell does a guy like Kristol whose credibility is zero get a job, let alone make the kind of money he does?

This is the same walking dung that said the notion that the Sunnis and the Shiites couldn't get along was psychobabble.

Somewhere there should be an entire list of this idiot's ramblings.

There should be a CSPAN channel devoted to nothing but playing back the inane babblings and calculated lies of pundits like Kristol, interspersed with the lies of right wing politicians whom they work for. This should run 24/7, 365 days/year, without commercial interruption. There is plenty of material to fill that time, such that reruns wouldn't be necessary except for some well-timed 'best of' shows to highlight the lowest points in Republican sleazery. It should be required viewing for all high school civics classes, college political science classes, and legally mandated viewing for each and every dumb@ss who voted for Bush in either 2000 or 2004.

We ought to have a primary to choose commentators. Take me for instance. I have never been in the running as a commentator, or recognized as having a great deal of wisdom, or have ever been accused of telling fairy tales; but I was against the Iraq War from the beginning(like a great number of us)even though I read no secret briefing; or have inside information-it was all in the papers. I said that it was going to be a "quagmire"(somebody heard me and borrowed my word) worst than Viet-nam.
I predicted that they would take out 1-3 of our people a day, until we got sick and tired,
of doing the same thing, with the same result;
and when I saw the Iraqui army melt into the woods, without putting up a fight, I knew what was coming "guerilla war" Middle-East style. I am not even an army analyst.
All you need is common sense.
New York Times are you reading? I am available for a job as a commentator.
!Si, se puede! Yes, we can!

Enough said.
