NEW YORK — The war is over: Judith Regan, the publisher fired in the wake of her efforts to release O.J. Simpson's hypothetical "confession," has settled her $100 million lawsuit with Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation.

"The parties are pleased that they have reached an equitable, confidential settlement, with no admission of liability by any party," according to a joint statement issued Friday.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked with so many gifted people and am looking forward to my next venture," Regan, who filed a $100 million defamation suit last November, said in a statement.

Regan's ReganBooks imprint at HarperCollins published a long list of racy best sellers, including Jose Canseco's "Juiced" and Jenna Jameson's "How to Make Love Like a Porn Star." But she was fired in December 2006, less than a month after Murdoch canceled her plans to publish O.J. Simpson's allegedly fictional murder confession, "If I Did It." The book and a companion Fox television interview were greeted with widespread public outrage.

"Ms. Regan is a talented publisher who created many award-winning and best-selling books during her twelve and a half years at the company," the company said in a statement. "News Corp. thanks Ms. Regan for her outstanding contributions and wishes her continued success."

At the time of her firing, when she still had more than two years on her contract, News Corp. alleged that Regan made anti-Semitic comments to a company lawyer during an angry telephone conversation.

"This charge was completely fabricated," according to Regan's lawsuit.

"After carefully considering the matter, we accept Ms. Regan's position that she did not say anything that was anti-Semitic in nature, and further believe that Ms. Regan is not anti-Semitic," News Corp. said Friday.

Regan had also accused her former employers of asking her to lie to federal investigators about Bernard Kerik, the former New York City police commissioner who was once her lover, and had tried to smear her.

Regan said the smear campaign stems from her past intimate relationship with Kerik, who was police commissioner under former Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, and from the political agenda of News Corp.

Giuliani, a Republican, appointed Kerik police commissioner and recommended him to President Bush for secretary of the Department of Homeland Security. Kerik had to withdraw his nomination after it was revealed he had not reported the wages he paid to a nanny. He was indicted last November, days before Regan filed her lawsuit, on counts including accusations of lying to the White House and filing false income tax returns. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

When the smarmy, amoral, Kerik loving, post menopausal, sleazebag, with a voice in the lower octave range, meets the ageing, immoral, buck hungry, trophy bride owning, ex-aussie publishing slimebag, it's really hard to know who to root for... I would think that a hand grenade, tossed into the negotiation room with they and their lawyers, would be a suitable and satisfying compromise.

Par for the course for Fox/Murdoch and his ilk.... covering up a cover-up with another cover-up. You can bet he ponied up much more than $100 million. A half bil wouldn't surprise me. And probably got a blowjob in return from her. ;)

It's interesting how decision making is made at that level. A police commissioner dumped trying to see his former lover, a well known writer fall from grace, a billionaire who gluttons for publicity and doesn't care about what is right and wrong. And the writer, a daughter of a former President who is smart, does her homework and can pull levers than can put the billionaire's head in a vice so tight, he will not be able to do anything else, but defend himself, his company and lose a lawsuit that would humiliate himself and the commissioner and expose his real character.

The real story behind the scenes. Like her or hate her Judith Regan, does her homework and has her details straight. She is one of the few who go to where she was by her own hard work and dedication

Newscorp like O'Reilly are admitting GUILT when they fail to stand up to a trial over accuasations of misdeeds by BUYING their kind of JUSTICE. A great demonstration of WEAK character.

Rudolfus X. Giuliani (aka Nosferatu, aka Il Douche, aka Rudoofus) will never be president of the United States. First of all, no kid could ever spell his name. Second, you could never trust him around your kids.

Judith Regan is Monica Lewinsky with a publisher instead of a safe deposit box for her solid dress story.

Notice how any lawsuit News Corp settles is confidential. Remember when Bill’O was going to fight his sexual harassment suit until News Corp settled 2 weeks latter. Bill you don’t sexually harass your producer on her voice mail. If Rupert ran such a tight ship why dose News Corp have to settle so many high profile law suites? Why do jerk-offs like John Gibson need do apologize for taking such a sleazy cheap shot against an actor who PLAYED a gay cowboy in a MOVIE, hours in the wake of his death? I think it’s a first for any FOX commentator to apologize for anything, never mind every other mindless BS throw away line the right wing takers though out their. If this nonsense keeps up News Corp is going to be writing a lot of checks. Is this the new right, a bunch of ignorant hypocrites, who check their compassion and brains at the door?

Reminds me of "Rosanna Rosanna Danna" when she finished her stories with "Oh... Never mind."

Two of the great characters created by Gilda Radner for "Saturday Night Live" were Rosanne Rosannadana, modeled after a NYC local news anchor named Roseanne Scarmadella and Emily Litella. Emily was the occasional "guest" on Weekend Update who always misunderstood the name or word central to a story and when she realized her error would end by saying "Never Mind".

Yeah she's not anti-semitic. Just because she wanted to publish a book by a black man who stabbed a jewish man to death.

Well, this is just like O'Reilly's lawsuit, in a way. The woman had the goods, and they had to settle.

However, all of us should remember that she claimed that Murdoch's company was willing to lie to help Guilliani, and break the law.
