Mukesh Ambani

What would you do if your net worth were $22 billion? If you were Indian businessman Mukesh Ambani, you might build yourself the world's most expensive home. As designed by Chicago architecture firm Perkins + Will, the in-progress glass-tower is estimated at $1 billion and is known to feature, at the least, a health club, multiple "safe" rooms, 3 helipads, 168 parking spaces and require 600 servants to maintain, and physically, the structure stands at 27 stories, or 570 feet tall.

According to the Mumbai Mirror, the tower will also contain:

Floor for car maintenance Sources said the Ambanis would prefer to have all their cars serviced and maintained at an in-house service centre. This centre will be set up on the seventh floor.

Entertainment floor
The eighth floor will have an entertainment centre comprising a mini-theatre with a seating capacity of 50.

Balconies with gardens
The rooftop of the mini-theatre will serve as a garden, and immediately above that, three more balconies with terrace gardens will be independent floors.

The 'health' floors
While the ninth floor will a 'refuge' floor -- meant to be used for rescue in emergencies -- two floors above that will be set aside for 'health.' One of these will have facilities for athletics and a swimming pool, while the other will have a health club complete with the latest gym equipment.

Family
The four floors at the top, that will provide a view of the Arabian Sea and a superb view of the city's skyline, will be for Mukesh, his wife Neeta, their three children and Mukesh's mother Kokilaben.

Air space floor
According to the plan, two floors above the family's residence will be set aside as maintenance areas, and on top of that will be an "air space floor," which will act as a control room for helicopters landing on the helipad above.

There is certainly nothing like it in Manhattan.

Will private skyscrapers in the Financial Center of America be the next "must-have"?

Of course, it would take a small army -- for those who own armies -- to run such a place, whether in America or in India.

No impediment however as I understand it is something certain Punjabi's can arrange.

I am not sure why people are upset with this man's wealth or the ugliness of his self-built prison. Its his money and if he wants to be extravagant about it, thats his business. We have tons of rich people in the US who are extravagant with their money without giving to the poor.

Besides, the Ambanis are also very philanthropic so the whole argument that he doesn't help out his fellow countrymen is rather silly. Bill Gates alone cannot eradicate poverty in the world but he sure tries. The assumption that Ambanis do nothing for the poor in India is a reflection of ignorance and bigotry.

Oh look, a modern day Taj Mahal built on inherited petrochemical wealth.

I'm sure in India the publicity regarding this Richistani and his ugly fortress, is all about how wonderful for the Indian economy because it's "creating jobs".

Buy low, sell high.

Someone should've told that rich moron the basics of real estate.

India has among the most deplorable poverty in the world, 12% of their population is homeless from birth to death -- with all of Indias problems, this guy spends 1 billion on a house?

His hundreds of servants will be paid a few measily bucks a week to maintain this monstrosity which continues to perpetuate that countrys cycle of poverty, servitude & cast system.

G.K. Chesterton, author of the Father Brown mystery series, pointed out that rich people end up imprisoning themselves. Look at how much this guy thinks he NEEDS to be safe and happy. I agree with the posters who say he should have spent the money on poor people around him (or never have made it in the first palce if we had an equitable economic system). But envy is the last thing I feel, personally. He's a lost, sad man to do this.

Nice. Did he build it on the backs of the U.S. IT industry?

I wonder how many people are working in his sweatshops for starvation wages so he could have the title of "the world's richest man".

With 1 Billion he could have built 25,000 houses for $40,000 each. I'm sure 40 grand buys you a good house in India. 25,000 families would have had homes. WTF is wrong with people? They have no heart. At least Bill Gates and Warren Buffet donate money like theres no tomorrow. 25,000 families lifted out of poverty.. I just cant get over that. I'd slap the shit out of him if I saw him on the street. He would probably immediately retreat to the panic room. Duchebag.

Looks like they are building their gilded cage to live in. Sounds like a cush prison they will lock themselves into, with no reason to leave.

Wouldn't want to live that way.

I do not view people like him as business men...but rather criminals who have managed to steal wealth as part of ugliest form of capitalistic system.
