Is This The Real iPhone Killer?

Forget rumors about a Dell GPhone: Apple has a new, real competitor to worry about in the high-end smartphone business. Garmin, the GPS navigation company, is working on a new gadget called the Nüvifone, which is set to ship in the third quarter. Expect to see a lot of buzz around this phone at the 3GSM mobile conference next month in Barcelona.

Like Apple's iPhone, it has a large, touch-sensitive LCD screen, email, text messaging, Web browser, music player, etc. Unlike the iPhone, it has GPS navigation software, a video camera, and connects to super-fast "3G" data networks. Things it can't do: Play movies or TV shows from Apple's (AAPL) iTunes store.

Unless it can match the market share that the iPhone currently has it will never generate the same kind of development and support. It could be better but if it is not revolutionary and attract a larger market share it will become a nice niche phone for those who like to touch things.

The thing has been on the market for 6 months and we're already looking at how to kill it?

Man! PPatt is really kicking and swinging isn't he? He's quite emotional too.

Hey sport, take a breath... nobody really cares about any of this, at least not on a level warranted by your hissy fit, and your link to a database listing Garmin's and Apple's competitors evens my conviction that the world is full of shitty smart phones no one has ever heard of.

This Garmin "iPhone killer" is still in the photoshop stage. One would think that a phone this close to an actual roll-out would include pictures of an actual device instead of mock-ups.

Typically commercial interests are being the reviews that neglect any feature comparisons that might cast suspicion on either the premise or conclusion of the article.

One would think that authors of articles like these might be inclined to do just a little legwork first.

PdaDB.Net contains the largest database of released and scheduled devices with complete tech specs, features and functions. The following comparison of N95, IPhone, and Etan X800 does indeed suggest that the IPhone has been killed though the myth lives on.

It's my guess that HuffPo readers still favor facts over myth and commercial hype.

Disclaimer: I have no commercial interest in any manufacturer of PdaDB.Net.

The myopia of this article is overwhelming and only highlights the lack of research that prevails as articles such as these go to press. People who write articles like this should be help up for public ridicule to the extent that they claim to know anything about the topic.

These phones already exist. I'd suggest that the uninitiated wannabe pundits spend some time over at pdadb before ( http://www.pdadb.net ) they write. That site contains an extensive database of devices indexed by each and every tech spec, feature and function in existence or in the works.

Take a look at the Eten X800. It has already killed the IPhone but evidently not the ignorance of the people who write about these things. Can they really be paid to write?

Check it out. It is also one of the thinnest smartphones with its level of function available:

What does Huffpo have against Apple? They always seem to be running articles that are overly critical or that hype Apple's competitors, and they never miss a chance to announce when something negative happens, such as the recent stock slide. And don't get me started on the so-called Macbook Air "flop" article.

You guys know that Al Gore is on the board and loves the company, right? Did you bother to run with the news that Al recently exercised some stock options and increased his investment in the company?

Hey, I'm happy to criticize the company when they do wrong, but you guys seem to relish it. What's up? Is it because Rush loves Macs, too?
