TMZ broke the news first, writing:

TMZ has learned Eva Mendes is in Utah battling a substance abuse problem.

We're told the "Ghost Rider" star is at the famous Cirque Lodge, near Sundance. The Lodge, which treated Lindsay Lohan and other stars, is one of the most respected treatment facilities in the country.

Since then, Mendes' rep has released the following statement:

"Eva has been working hard for the past year and made a positive decision to take some much-needed time off to proactively attend to some personal issues that, while not critical, she felt deserved some outside professional support. Out of respect for Eva's privacy, we do not wish to discuss further details."

Mendes is also know for roles in the Will Smith comedy "Hitch" and last year's "We Own The Night."

Well that's a bummer. Britney Spears can drop dead of terminal crotch rot tommorow and I'd just shrug. But Eva is actually attractive and talented. I hope she comes through this alright.

Okay so now it is classy and courgeous to admit you have an addiction...riiiiiight!! Everyone who is anyone in Hollywood suddenly has addictions or is getting arrested. The classy way of dealing with an addiction is to quietly check into rehab, not tell anyone and then tell your success story 5 years later...not have your agent give a press release. RIDICULOUS!!!

If she really has a problem and gets the proper help, good for her. On the other hand, why is it that all of these celebs in "rehab" always go to one of "the most respected treatment centers in America"? And then go party their asses off in the middle of it? Do they realize how hard it is for the rest of us who aren't rich and don't have SAG health insurance to actually get into one of these programs? Think about that while you're in recovery.

Give me Eva, a locked treatment room, some velvet rope restraints, a 12" latex homewrecker, nipple clamps, and a bottle or three of lube and I'll rehab her myself. Please ignore any screaming you hear. All we'll need is room service (food and bottled water) for 3-5 days and plenty of fresh sheets. Results guaranteed.

Eva Mendez's medical and substance abuse issues are no one's business but her own. we actually hurt people's chances at recovery by putting them under our judgemental microscopes and secretly enjoy watching the rich and famous suffer.

leave her alone and spend some time being less of a busybody. sorry to be a buzz kill, but gossip never helps anyone.
