Obama Adviser: Barack "Doesn't Go On TV And Have Crying Fits"

The advisor, retired Gen. Merrill A. "Tony" McPeak, said in a telephone interview that Obama has "real gravitas, not artificially created, focus-grouped, poll-directed, rehearsed gravitas."

He also said Obama "doesn't go on television and have crying fits; he isn't discovering his voice at the age of 60" -- references to Clinton's much-publicized show of emotion during the New Hampshire primary campaign and her speech after winning the contest in which she declared that she had "found my voice."

McPeak later retracted his remarks, and the Obama camp disassociated itself from them. [...]

An Obama campaign aide was on the line during the interview. Minutes later, McPeak called back to say he regretted his remarks and that he has "high regard" for Hillary Clinton.

He also expressed concern that "some of those loose-lips-will-sink-ships quotes will be the big story."

In an email, the Obama campaign said McPeak's words "crossed the line" and that Obama "strongly disagrees with these comments and apologizes on behalf of the campaign."

re: Obama's smoking.I was surprised that Oprah had that quit smoking show with Dr. Oz a couple of weeks ago. And at one point, Dr. Oz commented that most smokers suffer from anxiety or depression. I wish one of the reporters from the MSM would ask him if has quit smoking and when he had his last cigarette.

I feel Obama has been disrespectful to Hillary. I didn't appreciate him holding her chair at the debate, reminding the audience of the roles the sexes are supposed to play and I don't remember hearing anybody mention the "having tea" comment, the visual for which is often used to dismiss and trivialize women.

In addition, this Oprah/Caroline/Michelle thing is the epitome of pandering. I think it will backfire.

It is amazing how supporters of candidates can do

more harm than good.

We see it all of the time here at Huffpost.

Don't worry General. It won't be the big story in the MSM. They won't report anything that will make Obama look bad. Not yet, anyway. They will wait until Hillar is out of the picture and then go after him.

How come Obama and his campaign go scott free every time their campaign throws mud but when clinton mentions the letter O he is slammed by all the news media. This is unfair, no wonder when you stand up against the special interest you get tossed around.

So much for change peddling and futurama with the support from uncle Teddy. The Obama campaign is nothing but pastoral rhetoric and dream selling .

And Hillary doesn't sneak into back rooms and chain smoke a half dozen Marlboros.

Politics as usual, put the word out and then apologize.

BORAK OBAMA WAS AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR FROM THE BEGINNING.

And this rase questions about his FAMOUS JUDGEMENT.

In2002

KENNEDY VOTED AGAINST THE WAR on the base of known facts and secret information and estimates.

CLINTON VOTED FOR THE WAR on the base of known facts and secret informatio and estimates.

OBAMA MADE HIS MIND AND DESIDED TO SPEAK AGAINST THE IRAQ WAR only on the base of open information.

On my opinion to take position on the matter of such importanse only on the information from progressive newspapers, was irresponsible rush.

I don't like this kind of Judgment at all.

For me it IS ROLL OF DICE,guys.

And then FLIPS AND FLOPS IN THE SENATE.

And for those ,who think that his position on the war is strong case, will be amaised, how bed and weak this UNPATRIOTIC POSITION IS.

It will go down ,like HOUSE OF CARDS

And yet HE WILL SINK ENYBODY ON THE TICKET WITH HIM

It seemed like typical girl behavior to cry to get what she wanted. Just saying it seemed that way.

Simple Decision - Move Forward or rehash the past. Everyone respects Hillary Clinton's talent, that is her strong suit as a policy guru. However we all know you Clintonistas are counting on a two for one when you vote for Hillary.

Without Bill this race would be over already. There is no doubt Obama has 10 times the appeal,he has 9/10ths the experience, equal political judgement and Obama will have the same level if not the very same talent in the White House.

Obama brings new voters, new energy. When McKaskill & Sebelieus endorsed Obama, that was probably very hard for them. You don't think they would have loved to see a women as President. They know however the huge appeal Obama has.

Yea, go ahead and call him a queen, bitch, empty suit. But when the youth vote drops out after Hillary is nominated, and when the independents start breaking for McCain, then you will finally get what this movement is all about.

Simple decision - Move Forward or rehash the past.

"I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president. Enough. Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone." -- Molly Ivins

I agree with Molly.

then why do I always get the feeling that he's a whinny, wimpy little jerk? who whined about Bill being inside his head? who couldn't take the head games going on? who was the butt job who wouldn't shake Hillary's hand as if he were some school boy on the playground and some girl had pushed him down and taken his lollipop? if the man whines any more than he already does then he'll being a dress and panties next.

The biggest dopes are the MOVEON folks, who endorse Obama, even when he screws them over on a vote. They endorse him when he never had the COURAGE to vote for them in the Senate, when confronted with censure, because it was HARD and might have OFFENDED. It was Barack Obamam who once again, missed another politically dicey vote--this one--an easy one about free speech-- on whether to condemn MoveOn for its ad blasting General Petraeus, according to the vote's roll call.

At the same time, however, Obama was indeed present for the votethat came just moments before the MoveOn one. He voted for the Boxer measure condemning the attack on Petraeus and all other members of the military.

The vote he missed on MoveOn, of course, was the far more difficult one politically -- voting for it could make life complicated in the Dem primary by alienating the powerful group and its supporters, while voting against it could conceivably be used against him in a general election. Meanwhile, the vote for the Boxer measure is explainable, since it's a condemnation of all political attacks on military figures. Of course, there could perfectly well be a genuine scheduling explanation, too.

Hillary took a hard stand and voted AGAINST the anti-MoveOn reso -- Hillary doing so even when under assault from Republicans for not condemning the group. Come on folks, let's get real, the guy is a light weight when under pressure and is not prepared to handle the hard calls.

The general is right. The clintonites need to grow up.

I am more than disappointed in Clinton supporters. It is clear that the General said something he should not have said and the Obama camp appologized on behalf of the General and he did the same as well.

What else do you want?

I read a comment about Obama being a spoiled brat. Another, how Obama supporters are like a cult. You have just got to be losing it to think or say such a thing. Obama is not a messiah, not the chosen one, but he will certainly do a better job bringing the country together and is the best general election candidate we have.

For those who keep touting Sen. Clinton's experience, Obama actually has more legislative experience than she does, that's a fact.

I don't like the Obama's logo.

It looks like the Rolling Stones logo only Mick Jagger's tongue has the American flag painted on it.

McPeak probably cried more in ROTC. My wife and I watched the so-called crying on several repeats. Baloney.

Obama is a spoiled brat. His statement (made twice in the course of a week)that Hillary's supporters will vote for him but his supporters "may not" vote for Hillary is outrqageous. If Hillary had said that she would be crucified in the media; especially on HuffPost. I have not seen one reference to either time he said this on HuffPost. It is a devisive statement that encourages his supporters to bash Hillary. It will backfire on him as well it should especially since his message is supposed to be "unity". Hypocrisy of the highest order.

Hillary is 60 years old - and yeah - it is pretty funny that she is now "discovering" her voice - what the hell happened during all of those years of "experience"?

And the crying - dear lord - that last thing I want to see is a leader crying unless they are carting dead bodies by the Leader - not because she saw her bid for the Presidency not be pre-ordained.
