Now that former North Carolina senator John Edwards has exited the presidential race, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) is seizing the opening -- on the music front, that is.

At a rally here in the Montgomery Bell Academy's Brownlee O. Currey Gymnasium, the speakers blasted "Our Country," the John Mellencamp song that had served as the hallmark of Edwards's campaign events.

Jamie Hindmon, a senior at the University of Memphis who backs McCain, said it makes all the sense in the world to appropriate a Democratic populist's tune.

"If Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama can steal his ideas after he dropped out of the race, John McCain can steal his song," she quipped.

Obama and Clinton steal his words and policies, and now McCain steals his music. The Humanity!

Well, since 'John Edwards IS a good friend of John Mellencamp', I'm quite sure that John McCain is the *only* presidential candidate by the first-name of 'John' who is feeling the Mellencamp music, through his presidential campaign pocket-book. ;)

Right, because McCain is such a democratic populist. You think the politicians are bad enough. Then you get a glimpse of their minions. Unbelievable.

Poor John Edwards. All those losers, dem and rethug alike, stole all of his good ideas and used them against him.

Doesnt that tell you people that John Edwards is a true progressive and that his opponents from both parties have never had an original thought among them?

And you think these people give a damn about any of us?? delusional fools......

Does John Mellencamp have any say in who uses his music? He is a progressive, was an Edwards supporter and, I'm sure, would not vote for McPain if he was the only one on the ballot.

Hey McCain - here's a tip. The song didn't work for Edwards; it isn't going to work for you.

I'm not allowed to respond to the Ethel Kennedy post, so I'll digress a bit and say Thanks to Ethel for having the courage to come forward.

Off topic, but monday at 7pm ET NASA is transmitting a Beatles song out into the universe with its deep space program.
The song? 'Across the Universe' from 'Let it Be'

Well, it's been "there" (the Republicans) country for the past 7 years and just look at how badly they have fucked it up! If fact they have been a disaster every since Reagan had the White House.

Do you really think McCain will be any different from Bush? If you do then all you have to look at is how quickly McCain sucked up to Bush after getting trashed by the Bush campaign in 2000. McCain must have worn out a dozen pairs of kneepads just to get back into the Bush camp for 2004.

Get ready for the Jubilee,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
We'll give the hero three times three,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
The laurel wreath is ready now
To place upon his loyal brow
And we'll all feel gay when Johnny comes marching home!

He may not have his legs or arms,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
He may be blind or crazy now,
Hurrah! Hurrah!
He did his duty and got well paid,
At least that's what out President said,
But we'll claw some money back for he didn't complete his tour!
