The Chicago Sun-Times today named Tom McNamee its editorial page editor after Cheryl L. Reed resigned, saying in a note to her staff she was "deeply troubled" the paper's presidential primary endorsements of Barack Obama and John McCain were subjected to "wholesale rewrites" by people outside the editorial board.

The choice of candidate did not change in the endorsements, only parts of the prose, Sun-Times Publisher Cyrus F. Freidheim Jr. said in his own staff memo. "The changes made, in our judgment, deepened and strengthened the messages," he wrote.

This should be a warning to Americans "Not" to vote for any candidate who is "endorsed" by any self serving "Corporate Media Entity"!

So when does the original get "leaked" onto the Internet?

Cheryl Reed should get backers and start her own paper. It would be nice to have the unvarnished truth in the news for a change.

I'm hardly surprised. The Chicago Sun-Times has run cold and colder in its coverage of the Barack Obama campaign. When they announced that Obama was a politician mentioned in connection to Rezko they buried the lede after the third paragraph: "No wrongdoing was found."

I was absolutely surprised that a paper that has covered Obama so fiercely and taken more than its share of liberties in covering his record (just do a cross-search of MediaMatters.org and Obama and the paper) would endorse him anyway. Go figure.
