Economy Tops Voters' Minds Going Into Super Tuesday

Worries about the economy are topping Americans' minds as the Republican and Democratic presidential nominees head into crucial primaries or caucuses scheduled to take place in 24 states Tuesday, a new poll found.

On the eve of "Super Tuesday," more than eight in 10 Americans say the economy is "not so good" or "poor," while nearly six in 10 believe that the U.S. is already in a recession.

The results came in a new Washington Post-ABC News poll on Monday. Significantly for White House hopefuls, 39% of all Americans cite the economy and jobs as the No. 1 issue in the 2008 presidential campaign. That's up 10 percentage points in the past three weeks.
