GOPocalypse Now! Limbaugh Ups The Ante In Con Catfight

Super Tuesday is turning into a full-tilt meltdown among Republican elites who are losing their collective mind at John McCain, his upward-trending campaign, and his constant calls for Mitt Romney to maybe one day say something that makes sense. Earlier, McCain freaked out all over Romney for not paying reverent heed to the words of wizened, Viagra-fueled superfactory of war-hero manhood Bob Dole. Now, Rush Limbaugh, who received Dole's "chill with the anti-McCain vitriol" letter in the first place, is hitting back at McCain, suggesting that McCain is "manipulating" Dole. Crooks and Liars has the details:

Limbaugh: I'm sorry--Sen. McCain-I think what you are doing is disgraceful. How in the world is what Gov. Romney said a nasty attack on a veteran? What your campaign is doing Sen. McCain is manipulating Bob Dole, a war hero by the way, a war hero Sen. McCain who never talked about it. Bob Dole is being manipulated by your campaign, the leaking of this letter to the liberal media with a dishonest spin, speaks to the insecurity of the McCain camp.

Speaking of "dishonest spin," Limbaugh apparently added this kicker: "Ask John Kerry how much a great military record helps you in a Presidential race." So, being a war hero only carries you so far in the Limbaugh-verse. Anyway, all of this is likely to get even more contentious throughout the day, and will probably culminate this Thursday at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington, DC, where CPAC 2008 is scheduled to devolve into some sort of awesome knife fight.
