Gucci Gala

This Fashion Week was supposed to be full of celebrities, but until Wednesday's UNICEF & Gucci's fundraiser with Madonna, that hadn't proven true. Not only did Gucci just open up an emporium on Fifth Avenue in the former Asprey space, they lured some of the biggest celebrities in the world to their party. Below are just some of the red carpet photos. And more details:

Celebrities paid $2,500 to $10,000 each to dine on grappa-cured salmon, wild striped bass, tart of goat cheese, foraged mushrooms, truffled mashed potatoes and sticky toffee pudding with creme fraiche...

Tom Cruise bid $100,000 for a sports package that included the privilege of hanging out at Yankee Stadium with Alex Rodriguez and a private hour playing soccer with David Beckham, but lost out to a bidder who ponied up $350,000.

"It was an extraordinary evening. The whole evening was quite moving," Cruise told The Associated Press, accompanied by his wife, Katie Holmes, who agreed. Cruise called the United Nations "an absolute necessity" because of the staff who dedicate their lives to building peace.

A trip to Paris with a tour of a vineyard and lunch with Francois-Henri Pinault and Salma Hayek went for $120,000. The priciest auction item was a $600,000 winning bid to tour with Madonna and take a dance class with her and Gwyneth Paltrow.

UNICEF is a worthy cause. However, Madonna is a cruel woman who wears real fur and goes fox hunting. She possesses not one iota of compassion for animals.

At least they were paying for something for a change.

Only Madonna could get that many huge stars in one place.

Alicia Keys, Rihanna and Gwen there to praise her.

From Chris Rock to Martha Stewart to Rosie and Donald Trump in the same place! The list of stars there was more impressive than the Oscars. 08 is going to be Madonna's year.

Gotta admit I STILL love me some Madonna.(and I'm 54) She is an inspiring woman IMO. I admire her energy and imagination and natural beauty. I remember when she first was famous and all the pre-teenage -daughters and nieces of my young friends were so exited to see her and try to dance and dress cute like her and all that. It was precious. Her daughter is gorgeous too...looks a LOT like her daddy from the pics I have seen.

Say what you want about Madonna, the lady has staying power. Good for her.

But ... WTF is Gwyneth wearing? She looks like a swizzle stick tied up with a big pink bow.

And does Katie Holmes only have that one expression? She looks Victoria Beckhamized, or Stepfordized. Scientologized? Whatever...

But ... WTF is Gwyneth wearing? She looks like a swizzle stick tied up with a big pink bow.....

Answer: that's her daughter's dress that she was starving herself to fit into - didn't Huffpo post that she'd passed due to "fasting" recently?

Aren't those big fish lips attractive on the largely pregnant Mrs. what the H is her husband's name .....Lopez?

If Madonna is giving, or taking dancing lesson, she will be assited with the aid of a walker.

STFU. Seriously. Do you think these assinine old jokes make anyone think less of her? You are a bitter, jealous person. I am laughing at the desperate old jokes hurled at Madonna. Yet, her next CD will still top the charts in every country in the world. Suck that!

they all look like superficial aged barby dolls. Chissled all alike. The food they ate I can cook from my supermarket for 35 dollars and it probably will taste better.

"600,000 auction item. We should certainly tax these rich people more"

ME - Umm...you DO realize that $600k went to help african orphans, right? But I guess our government could use that instead. Whatever.

It's going to a program to teach african orphans about kaballah. Not exactly charity, trying to intiate innocent and needy kids into a cult.
02:00 PM on 02/07/2008
No its not. Take your FOXNEWS propaganda elsewhere. Who are you, Roger Friedman?

kaballah is not a cult. kaballah is likely what yeshua the christ himself practiced.

Wow. $600,000 auction item. We should certainly tax these rich people more. Imagine all the good the government could do with that extra money! There is no reason why these people whould have so much when so many are losing their homes and having their credit cards maxed out.

Tax them I say! Tax them all!!!

I love Madonna! She was the coolest thing, in the day. What the heck is JALO and Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and the ridiculous gwyneth doing there? Madonna, you used to be soooo cool, but these nerds (media whores, in the case of the Cruises) just don't seem cool enough to belong in your world!
09:11 AM on 02/07/2008
that's ouch!!! madonna was the extreme IN THE DAY and still today. give all of them a place in the sun - the oxygen thieves are the ones who feeds these media whores!!

I agree! I love Madonna as much today as I did when I was a late teenybopper and she was fresh out on the scene. Proud of her, ( Italian American background, like me!) also because she was sooo young when she started, but was never into drugs or fell apart like the wacked out famous kids today. Madonna is sooo theatrical and funny, and soooo cool! I loved Truth or Dare too. She can't act,( well, in movies, anyweay, her videos she is an awesome actress) but baby, she can sing and market herself. Madonna is one of a kind, the most powerful and well paid woman in music!

What I meant by late teenybopper, is that I was in my late teens...
